Hi all

I recently noticed that AMD's AIB partners are working an a Dual-GPU version of the 7970, dubbed the 7970x2 : http://www.techpowerup.com/166643/AMD-AIB-Partners-Said-to-be-Working-on-quot-HD-7970-X2-quot-.html

Now I see three possibilities coming out of this

1. The 7990 & 7970x2 will both be released. The 7990 will be $850-$950 overseas and of a reference desighn, have stock/slightly lower clocks (920 or lower and 1370 or lower) and have a TDP of 450-500 watts. The 7970x2 will be completely AIB (non-reference) design, have higher clocks than the reference design (1GHz+) and cost cost $950-$1000+ overseas.

2. The 7990 will dropped from line-up entirely, there will be a reference PCB (The same as the 7990 would have been) but AIB's would have non-reference boards available at launch. The reference 7970x2 will have same clocks as possibility 1. It will cost around $850-1000 for the reference 7970x2, and the non reference $950-1000+.

3. The 7970x2 will release as a Dual-GPU card and the 7990 will be a new chip the fastest single-GPU AMD has to offer.

What are your thoughts?

me thinks they will continue with the 7990 and people will still buy it because it is 7970+20 :-)
