AMD A9-9425 vs Intel Core i5-7200U

Hi guys,

I'm a software developer (mainly .NET dev) and looking to get a laptop primarily for development purposes and I've seen 1 laptop within my budget (R6500.00) that fits my criteria. These are the general specs Laptop 1 has and I am looking for:
256GB SSD, 8GB RAM, Win10 (I can upgrade to Win10 Pro myself).

The AMD processor is cheaper than the Intel processor by R1900.00, so I want to find out what the difference between the 2 processors is? I've always used Intel processors and have no experience using an AMD processor.

I use Visual studio 2019 enterprise, sql sever 206, postman, etc the ususal dev programs, will the AMD with an SSD and 8GB be a better experience than the i5-7200U?

The intel with multithreading will outperform that particular amd chip especially with compile times and handling intellisense etc.
Do you need a laptop over a desktop though ? For that budget and with some second hand parts you could get a much better system.

Not that particular AMD processor. That is based on the older Bulldozer architecture, which is terrible. Stay away! You would regret saving R1900 if you bought it.

Do you need a laptop for portability because you'll get much more for your money from a desktop.

You don't want that old amd cpu.

Wow, so no to the AMD, got it. I'm currently using an i5-6200U, would I be better off just upgrading RAM from 8Gb to 16Gb as well as from an HDD to 500GB SSD?

Going from a 6200u to a 7200u won't be much of an upgrade, the only difference is slightly higher clocks.

Why don't you use a desktop for dev work?

I have a 7200u in my laptop, buddy has a 6200u. Really not much difference. I have more ram, so my Laptop is faster
