Im not an AMD guru, but i need to know, cause i want to upgrade to AMD but i am unsure.

Is a AMD 3200 = 3.2 Intel? (you get the picture)

If the above statement is true then:

AMD 4800 = ???? Intel? (would that be equal to a "4.8Ghz"?) Which i doubt.

AFAIK, yes, but for the price of an Intel 3.2 you could buy an AMD 3500

Remember the 4800 is a duel core chip, and AFAIK its equal to two AMD 4000s

Hehehe, guru useless, could you point me a bit more towards a direct answer?

lol... well its best if he sees it from the best site that could tell him that... i dont have much time ATM to write all the differences down now... :p

Well AMD 3200 doesn't equal P4 3.2 in the clockspeed - however they equal [or in some cases, the 3200+ does better] in benchmarks.

AMD 4800+ = Pentium 840 Extreme Edition [dual-core]

its very simple if you see an amd 64 3000
and an intel 3.0 they may not be the same but performance wise amd kicks ass

amd base their names on intel's speed :)

AMD - best for gaming
Intel - best for applications

finito.

useless i agree but intels and still play games well, amds just cant handle everything other than gaming, try do 2 things at once with a non dual core amd and ull see.

i went amd on the pc i got now, that was a no no!

well think about this

amd does one thing way better than intel

how many ppl do you know open up lots of appz

i mean if you want a document u load word wanna do graphics open corel draw AMD WORKS JUST AS WELL because most ppl only use one program at a time

Go read some benchmarks - Tom's Hardware is good. The AMDs routinely thrash the "equivalent" Intels at most benchmarks, including games and applications, with the usual exception being audio encoding.

And the AMDs run cooler and use less power.

I completely disagree with that statement. Just about every single person I know need to keep multiple applications running in order to do their work. These includes graphic artists, video editors, system administrators, personal assistants, secretaries, developers, database administrators, managers, analysts, accountants..... the list goes on.

AMD runs hotter and uses less power...

Also the AMD is for gaming and intel for apps.
AMD is like a guy with 1 hand - doing 1 thing at a time is fine.
Intel is like a guy with 20 hands - you can do more at once.

AMD runs cooler. This is because it consumes less power!

As for the rest - don't believe me, just go read the benchmarks.

i do know the benchmarks prove a lot, but from a summary point of view my statement was the shortest.

as for running apps... i think the only apps i run on my gaming PC are benchmark apps... :p

i do all my other app at work where they belong.

Hehe, i just somehow knew this was gonna be a intel/amd war.

Well, i took the plunge and i went in luchtime and bought my very first AMD cpu (939 3500+) and msi amd mobo. After being an avid Intel Supported i would like to try AMD out (NFS and B&W2) and see what happens. In the other thread you can see why i also want to change cause of my rebooting problems. So tonight its install (at a friends house so the wife cant see) and then innocently reload it with XP 64 bit amd hopefully be AMAZED!

roughing up the coop i see? :p

just be sure most games can run on the 64 bit OS, Splinter Cell 3 wont as an example.

I got a AMD64 too but resorted to the 32 bit Windows XP, nothing much other than faster apps loading currently on the 64 bit CPU's. Until i see proper game support for 64 bit CPU's i will use a 32 bit OS.

And before anybody pops in with "but this game has native 64 bit support, etc" let me state that its only cosmetic PR stuff, Far Cry 64, Rid**** 64, etc didnt have anything different.

K, so there isnt much difference ind 32 and 64? Cause i dont really wanna get rid of MCE 2005 yet. And the guy who said you cant get MCE 2005 yet, even sahara sells it now. Priced between home and pro.
