The architecture of AMD chips is different to that of Intel chips.
AMD has shorter number pipeline stages per clock cycle.
AMD can do more work in a shorter time because of this.
Intel has higher clock speeds to balance this out.

...bottomline use whatever is most efficient and performs best
Also cache on die is quicker to access
In a nutshell,a 2.2AMD is AROUND the equivalent to say a 3.0-3.5 Intel......In benchmarking gaming etc
