I am looking for a new AMD cpu I feel it's time to upgrade from my current 5600+ 2,8 dual core cpu.Now am only looking for a cpu capable of running all latest games and not bottle necking my 2 9800gtx sli.
I am not into overclocking so am not to worried about a unlocked multiplier.

I was thinking about the phenom 720 tri-core cpu I know it will be able to play all latest games without probs but am not sure if it will bottle neck my gfx or not? or should i rather save up and go for a phenom 945?
I really don't want to spend more then 1,8k on a cpu.
Any suggestions?

Well for 1.8k you can get the Phenom 945 so go for it. I was looking at that chip and it seems pretty damn good. You can get a nice mobo for R1100 and the chip for R1800.

I don't need a motherboard just a cpu:)

Even if you get the tripple core amd, and it bottlenecs your system, the bottleneck won't show up below 40-50 fps.

Keep in mind that most games are happy with less cores and higher clock speeds. Rather get a lower core count Phenom then say a Athlon quad core.

I am aware of that thx:) .I am going to save up and go for the 945 quad qore it clocks at 3 gig standard am sure that's more then enough for games. And hopefully it won't bottle neck my 9800gtx's.
Thx for all the feed back.

ACtually i disagree , the x720 is just as good as the 945 in all the benchies , if not better . Why spend more than you have to?

I'd get the 720. Most new games show a performance boost to 3 cores but little to no boost going to 4 cores from 3.

I'd get the quad, future proofing to an extent. I remember when people were saying you don't need more than 2 cores, now its 3. Specially with you basically having 4 Gfx's there if you count 2 per 9800x2.

My opinion though

I am really happy with the Athlon II X4 620 I bought some time ago. But I know Phenom X2 does much better at games.
