Ok,

Everyone here knows I'm looking at mobos, cpus etc.
So what I went and did was look at AMD cpu pricing at suppliers.

What I found is shocking.

Almost all (if not all) are stopping supply of X3 cpus..

Why? They must be selling like hotcakes!!

So now my budgeting is op gef**.

I'm now forced to look at MSI 790GX mobos and X4 cpus.
Screwing with my philosophy slightly..
:(

You guys recon it is almost as good as the 790FX version?

Look at Asus 790GX boards as well. I think they come in cheaper than MSI. Asus also has 3 or 4 790FX based boards.
Not sure how GX compares to FX as I've been looking at them recently.

Good reasoning.
However, it's not only the app that needs to be multithreaded to warrant more cores. The OS should usually spread apps across the cores so that extra core is really only much of a benefit when you have tons of apps going at the same time.
If the 3-core fits you needs, then go for it.

The fx supports quad x-fire while the gx doesn't.

Just get the gx.

I think the x3 720 is a peach. All the tests i've seen on it, its more or less on par with the quad stuff.
