AMD Free-sync Premium Pro

So i have this monitor that supports 'AMD Free-sync Premium Pro' but how do i use it? I googled a few YouTube videos stating that i will need a AMD GPU OR NVIDIA GPU. Is this really true if so what model and do i just buy the GPU and connect it using my display port cable or what. Please can someone advice me what to do as i don't what to make a expensive mistake. Also will my monitor refresh rate increase?

AMD Freesync helps to synchronize the monitor's refresh rate with the FPS (frames per second) your PC is able to generate in a game. Let's say you have a 120Hz monitor (refreshes 120 times a second) but you are only generating 90FPS (frames per second). Your monitor is refreshing faster than it is receiving new frames to show, so they are out of sync. This can lead to screen tearing, ghosting and other undesirable effects on the screen.

AMD Freesync (and G-Sync for nVidia) essentially change the refresh rate of the monitor to match the FPS (in this example, 90FPS, so 90Hz for the monitor) so that they are in sync.

It cannot increase the refresh rate of the screen beyond what it is rated for, so if you have a 60Hz screen, the max it will ever get to is 60.

Most modern GPUs support Freesync, G-Sync will only work on nVidia GPUs.

So my monitor has a refresh rate of 165Hz. So if i am understanding correctly is that its maximum is 165Hz. So i am using a laptop with my monitor but i only ever see 60Hz refresh rate because of my laptops intel graphics card is really bad. So would i need to buy a supported GPU NVIDIA/AMD to get a better refresh rate. Also how would i use the GPU would i need to connect it with some type of cable or display port.

You will not be able to upgrade the graphics in your laptop, unfortunately.

Your only option would be to get an External GPU dock and a GPU. But for that money you may as well just buy a laptop with a better graphics card.

So are you saying if i just get a better laptop with a better graphics card it should work? Also how do i feed my gpu to my monitor. Also does this mean i will not ever get limited by refresh rate with the right laptop gpu?

A higher refresh rate is only really useful in high speed application like games. Movies, web browsing, working, Excel, etc will have no benefit from it. In fact, it would be worse because you'd be using more power for the same experience. The only real difference you might notice is the mouse smoothness. In gaming it can make a difference and then it would be worth it.

In a laptop with something like an nVidia GPU and Intel GPU, the PC will be using the Intel GPU for pretty much everything except for graphically intensive workloads, like gaming or video rendering or something like that. In that case, you would be able to set the refresh rate to 165. But when running on the Intel GPU, I don't believe you will have that option.

You would connect the monitor the same way you currently do, with the HDMI/Display port cable.

Okay so most laptops have a single HDMI port to connect a monitor. Usually it's HDMI 1.4 or 2.0. If it's 1.4, your max is 1440p/60Hz which is why you're not seeing 165Hz. If it's 2.0 it should do 165hz no problem.
Get a good HDMI 2.0 cable, connect the monitor and see what comes up. On Windows 11 you can just search "Display" and click on advanced display to see what refresh rates are available.

I mainly use my monitor for gaming everything else i use my laptop so that is why i am curious about this as you can notice so my visuals from my screen with 60 Hz compared to a screen with 165 Hz. So all i would have to do is get a new gaming laptop and just enable the AMD Free-Sync Premium Pro , and it should register a higher refresh rate?

No you see the problem is not with my cabling it is my laptop that is the problem the highest refresh rate i can register is 60 Hz because of my graphics card in my laptop which is intel. But i will try to see if it works

Also on my laptop alone the highest refresh rate i can get is 60Hz that is why my monitor is registering the same amount. I think i just need to get a better laptop for gaming that has a good GPU
 
What games are you wanting to play? You obviously need to make sure whatever they are that your laptop is able to achieve over 60FPS

I play mostly first person shooter games & also racing games which has a high intense graphics
