Just finished building my first AMD setup with the stock cooler and it's incredibly loud with the cpu fan just over 5000 rpms. I did some googling and found out that its a known issue with the stock coolers. However, being my first AMD build I'm not really sure what kind of cooler I should look for and where I could get it. Any help appreciated. Thanks

I think post a budget and what case you have, that way we can help with budget and the correct heatsink size

well AMD havebeen useing the same socket size for YEARS,

mid-http://www.comx-computers.co.za/CC-CH212X-Coolermaster-Hyper-212X-CPU-Cooling-Fan-Buy-p-73952.php
high-http://www.comx-computers.co.za/WC-CN120XL-Coolermaster-Nepton-120XL-CPU-Water-Cooler-Buy-p-110788.php

on buget range

u can get a all in one Water for 700,but taken the thick one,amd tends to run hot,so the exstra air will come in hand :)

Thanks for the help guys. I've taken the Coolermaster Hyper TX3 Evo CPU Cooler, its a cheap alternative until I save up for a water cooler.

Not using the stock cooler may void your warranty.

where have u gotten that info?

overclocking may void your warranty,

anyways adding a new cooler, and running it at a cooler temp, will make the life span of the cpu more,so dont see how this works :P

Not using the stock cooler may void your warranty.

That was the case when AMD weren't using heatspreaders on their chips. Today, you can mix and match without worrying about warranty claims.

I stand corrected.
I bought my FX 6350 about seven months ago. At that stage it was stipulated: "Use ONLY the heatsink/fan provided. Use of any other heatsink/fan will void the warranty."
Cheers

Ok and what about most FX range CPU's that does not even include a cooler or fan? You can't run without!

Was that quoted in the manual in the box, or on the website you purchased it from?

It would appear that when buying a boxed cpu, one need to use the included fan. If you buy it as a stand alone you can use any fan with it.
