AMD Opteron

I am Budgeting for a new workstation PC and got a Quote for 2 Intel Xeon 2.66MHz hexa core for R 18 000 and the accompaning motherboard for About R 4 000.

I want to way up my options, can anybody please give me an indication of what the following might cost me.

AMD Opteron 6140 x 8 cores at 2.6GHz

And A AMD serverboard that can fit to of those CPUs with four ram slots for each CPU.

I would be more than happy with estimates.

How urgent is the new server?

Reading through the AMD business blog it seems that AMD's new server chips such as the FX-8170P based on the Zambezi architecture seems to be pretty mind blowing. (8 Cores at 4.2GHz) but they are only scheduled for release in Q4...

I think i can Wait for the FX-8170, it will be retailing at about $320 and is aimed at desktop users, that is a lot cheaper than a 8 core opteron.
