I'm pretty new to OC but have done my fair share of reading. I'm having issues OC my cpu to over 3.8ghz, I've gotten my cpu at 3.8 stable on a 2 hour Prime95 test but when adjusting either the multipliers or core V to 3.9 I get BSOD after 5 min in to logging in and starting up Prime95.

My last test run was set at:
Core voltage at 1.46
Bus speed = 205.8
HT Link Speed = 2058
Multipliers = 19

Temps:
min = 29c
Max = 42c

I've tried playing around with some combinations (Multipliers, Core Voltage, Bus Speed, CPU/NB, HT Link) and found this to be the most stable. I've also tried pushing down my DRAM but made no difference in stability.

I'm running an Antec Kuhler 620 with two CM Excalibur fans as push/pull

Any suggestions? comments? Thanks!

My Setup
CPU = AMD Phenom x4 965 3.4ghz @ 3.8
Motherboard = Asus Crosshair IV Formula
Memory = 4gb Corsair Dominator 1600oc
Graphics Card = Asus Radeon HD6870 1gb Ddr5
Hard Drive = 2x500gb Samsung 5200rpm
Power Supply = MUKii Asroc Plus 750w
Case = CoolMaster 690 II Advanced
CPU cooling = Antec KĂśHLER H20 620 Water Cooler
OS = Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Sorry meant 965

thanks dude.
Ill put up both approaches to 3.8 tonight

So after a few hours of testing I could only get the core speed to 3.85...anything more and my pc BSOD. Thinking it might be the ram clocking to hight I went and really pushed down the ram to 800mhz but still no luck.

Here is a screenshot of my current progress. Prime95 has been running for over an hour now so i would say its pretty stable

Could you perhaps post a FULL size screenshot, and not just a thumbnail?

Here's a thread where someone else got advice for running his X4 965 BE @ 4GHz: http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=649120

I'd recommend that you keep your Bus speed at 200MHz, otherwise you'll have to adjust your memory speeds to remain below their rated values, which might be like 1600MHz 9-9-9-27. With your bust speed being like 205, you'll have to adjust your memory multiplier and memory timings.

The advantage of the Black Edition CPU's are that you can keep the Bus speed at the default value and then simply ramp up the multiplier and Vcore voltage, which is supposed to make overclocking so much easier.

Exactly.
