AMD Piledriver

It is looking good finally. Only issue is single thread performance really impacts on gaming and it's just dismal. But multithreading is amazing, sometimes beats 3770 and overclocks like a bomb.

Typical just about to finish my gaming pc now Amd will decide to bring out a processor worth considering.
Sigh :(

Yeah. AMD is definitely falling behind in terms of gaming PC's! I actually owned an AMD2600+ because they were ahead at that time :(

Now the only AMD computer that I have is my HP Microserver.

Sigh.... I remember the days of pentium 4 when an AMD 2600+ used to smash my 3GHZ prescott

Sorry to hijack this thread but that review shows the 3570k performing very close or near par with the 3770k or am i just seeing things....... I was feeling inferior since I have a 3570k as compared to 3770k but really for gaming n general stuff I'm surprised with the 3570 its really a pocket rocket . Got mine running smooth at 4.4/4.5GHZ

What I have seen is that for less moola, you get equivalent performance in a decently multi threaded game. And with the price, 8320 at $170 vs a 3570k for $230, why would you buy the Intel if you know your primary games are well threaded? That $60/R600 can be a bump to the next GPU in some cases, which will always be the better pick if you want gaming performance.

And yes, avid, 3770 vs 3570 is basically the same for games. Its only when you go flat out multi threaded with things like rendering that you'll notice the difference

Yeah exactly, its the price / performance ratio. And amd are ahead of intel in that regard with this new cpu.

I still think AMD are still only catching up to Intel's Sandy bridge, and have a way to go. We have Intel dropping Haswell in what? 5 Months time?

It's sad but AMD still lacks what gamers need. I'd rather pick up a 2nd hand i5 2500k than get these.

Tech Report sums it up.

If you're willing to tolerate more heat and noise from your system, if you're not particularly concerned about the occasional hitch or slowdown while gaming, if what you really want is maximum multithreaded performance for your dollar... well, then the FX-8350 may just be your next CPU. I can't say I would go there, personally. I've gotten too picky about heat and noise over time, and gaming performance matters a lot to me. Still, with the FX-8350, AMD has returned to a formula that has endeared it to PC enthusiasts time and time again: offering more performance per dollar than you'd get with the other guys, right in that sub-$200 sweet spot. That's the sort of progress we can endorse.

For those of you interested, I have my own thoughts on Piledriver/Vishera up as well, but its a little more than what this forum's post limits can permit. I am liking the improvements and the much improved gaming performance, as well as the vastly better multi-threaded results, even when placed to the Core i7-3770K, which is R1200 more. Its even more impressive when you consider how Steamroller will improve things - less power consumption than what we're seeing here and potentially even performance that matches Haswell. Times have got interesting for AMD fans once again.

Thanks Wesley, I enjoyed reading that link.

Any one have any idea when we will get these in SA?

About six weeks from launch, roughly. Its taken a month for any Trinity stock to get to distributors, but retailers are slow to list up anything because of stock concerns.
