AMD results beat expectations in declining PC market

I'm actually impressed, they did a lot better than anyone was expecting. Some of the money does come from selling off their assets but when a company with people as talented as AMD's employees, they may be forced to be creative to stay above the red until the situation becomes better.

Didn't AMD get the Sony PlayStation 4 contract?

Yup, they're producing a custom APU for Sony using the same designs that will come to market later. AMD will even sell a cut-down version of the PS4 APU to boost sales because of the console connection. I'm looking forward to that one.

And I think they're producing the WiiU chips as well.

The GPU inside the Wii U is close to a Radeon HD4670. The original Wii's GPU was also made by ATi and AMD's still cashing in from sales of the Wii and the Xbox 360. Now that they dominate the console market, I hope they do really well.

Well their withdrawal from PC chip manufacturing doesn't seem that bad a decision given the current PC decline. This may have been a fantastic long term decision.
