I'm sure many of you have fond memories of the AMD glory days, the days where you would snap up a Athlon 3800+ that ran better than your n00b buddies Pentium at (almost) half the price. I was looking at benchmarks on Tomshardware and found that the AMD A10-5800K (Trinity 4c/4t) not only has DOUBLE the performance of the comparable I-5 but is HALF the price in USD.

I would love to purchase this or the 8 Core AMD FX-8350 ($200.00) which runs the same as the 6 Core Intel Core i7-970 ($600.00). Not only does the AMD suit me as the Smart Shopper ™ that I am, its also much better for what I d graphic design/video editing.

Anyway, I am still hoping to find good suppliers that stock AMD at good prices, and not as a rare import with inflated prices which defeat the entire purpose. I called Rectron today, and they said that they do not really do AMD anymore, Sahara does not, last time I checked the pricelist, I checked the Corex website today and AMD is not listed, have however e-mailed them to ask. If you know of any good AMD suppliers/retailers AMD deals in S.A. post 'em here.

Check Frontosa. There's another supplier as well. Will post when I remember.

Where did you see the A10-5800K beating a Core i5? I've owned a 5800K and 6800K, both were loads of fun but not exactly competition for a Core i5...

He probably meant in game performance (he was probably using integrated graphics on the i5, which is an unfair comparison).

That's the only way it would stand a chance. With like-for-like discrete graphics cards, the AMD will be dog walked up and down the street.

I miss the Socket 462, 754 and 939 :(
