AMD unveils new processors

U.S. CPU and chip manufacturer AMD will be unveiling its new processors at CeBIT 2011. These new models are said to outperform the current top models of its Phenom-II series by 50 percent.

The outstanding performance of AMD's Phenom-II multi-core processors makes them ideal for computationally intensive HD entertainment. Another key benefit is that the processors are systematically designed for high energy efficiency.

This does not seem to be getting much attention in the news section so i thought I would post it here.

This probably relates to their new Bulldozer processors. Cebit runs from 1-5 March so we will probably see more in the next few days.

I though AMD is located in Germany? since when are they in the U.S.?

weird... I thought they were German before...

Very weird... They're as American as apple pie, Uncle Sam and bombing the **** out of backwater third world countries. Always have been. All the big CPU/GPU makers are, ATI used to be Canadian, but they're of course part of AMD now.

You're probably thinking of AMG...

Hope its still based on the AM3 socket, as I need to upgrade my old Phenom 9950BE sometime soon

The new AMD bulldozer CPU is based on a new AM3+ socket. So wait a bit until the new mobo's come out with a new Am3+ socket support,if you can wait near the end of the year it will have DDR4 support as well.

AMD's biggest most advanced fab is in Germany.

So can they keep up with intel now?

Dunno, maybe not. We will have to wait and see how things compare on a performance basis alone and then on a price to performance ratio. Power consumption is also something to keep in mind.

Wait and see.

So can they keep up with intel now?

Few people care about the very top range CPUs, they're usually terribly priced and drop very quickly in value. If AMD can compete on price with their mainstream Intel counterparts then that's all they need.

I'd guess these chips probably keep up with all but Intel's very best once they're actually released, then Intel will beat them again with their next gen chips.

I'm waiting for quadcores or 6 cores to hit the R600 price range before I upgrade again.

And what is it will Intel and AMD changing their socket type every time? It sucks balls that I have to upgrade my board every time I get a new processor. Okay, now is different since I need a new board anyway, but it's seriously a pain in the behind.

It could also be AEG :)

Well I must say as someone who spends more time looking at AE and maya render then anything else in the day. This sure does look like an impressive little chip
