HEY The new amd tripple-core is out!!
I was thinking of buying the Amd socket AM3 Tripple-core 720 Phenom 2 x3 Black edition (2.8Ghz) but I'm not so sure? what do you think about it??

Only if you're lucky, apparantly. I read an article where certain batches used faulty ones, and other batches used ones that can be unlocked.

For the price it's awesome. It hits the sweet spot when it comes to gaming too. You can also overclock it to about 3.8ghz using air cooling.

Im also going with the AMD AM3 Tripple-core 720 Phenom 2 x3, the price is really a lot cheaper than anything that intel offers....

The cheapest one I could find was at Rebel tech for about R1950? Is it a good price or can you find it any cheaper ?:)

I had one clocked to 3.7 for a little while but found the sweet spot at 3.5 "200*17.5 @ 1.45 vcore"

Very good chips

They've been around for a few months already so they're not really new. I think they're the first AM3 chips so they support DDR memory controller.

WOW! 3.5 that's Awesome! whats your temp on idle and under load???

There was a rumour running around that the new 2Core AMD CPU's will have 2 dorment once and SOME motherboards would be able to unlock the other 2... Maybe thats even a better buy? I mean pay for 2 get 4 ;) Rather than paying for 3 and getting 4...

That sounds affordable:D where did you heard that?

Unlocking those extra cores has a very low success rate. I really wouldn't bet on it.

I'm a bit out of touch here - why would you want three core cpus?

Because they are better than dual cores. Games actually use 3cores. 4cores are a waste for gaming. That extra core comes in handy with over stuff that make it worth it over a dual core.

which game makers has made use of 3 cores when 2 and 4 cores were the norm?

Well obviously three cores is better than two or one - but you already have a healthy quad core cpu segment. Why would I want to get tri-core as opposed to quad? More cores is always better.
