Cape Town - According to various media reports, Proteas batsman Hashim Amla refused to give an interview to a female TV host during South Africa's recent tour to India.

Various websites, including ABP LIVE, Sportskeeda.com and cricketcountry.com, reported that Amla, who is a strict believer and follower of Islam, said the woman was not appropriately dressed, and if she wanted to interview him, she had to be properly dressed.

The woman then quickly changed after which Amla agreed to be interviewed.

Amla denies 'underdressed' reporter claims

Proteas batsman Hashim Amla has denied asking a female TV host to dress more appropriately before he granted her an interview.

The apparent incident, reported on a number of websites including ABP Live, Sportskeeda.com and cricketcountry.com, happened during the Proteas recent tour of India.

It is believed that Amla, who is a strict believer and follower of Islam, said the woman was not appropriately dressed, and if she wanted to interview him, she had to be properly dressed.

The woman then quickly changed after which Amla agreed to be interviewed. Amla was reportedly not comfortable that the TV host was wearing a skirt and a low-neck top.

Amla, however, took to Twitter on Saturday morning to refute the claims, posting two tweets in quick succession:

"hey cumon peeps, 95%of stuff on d Internet r fake..but u knew dat right? Certainly I have never asked any reporter to dress for my liking."

"As a South African I have the greatest respect for people of all faiths and cultures. I will never impose my beliefs on anybody else. #peace"

We don't know exactly what happened. Its his word against hers.

Perhaps Amla felt pressured to be more strict in that part of the world.

It is very concerning though.

If the editor of a newspaper does not have confirmation of a key fact on a story how can he publish it?

This is a pathetic attempt at character assassination.

They should publish both points of view.

Until such time as the un-named female reported decides to make a statement(If ever) all we have is one point of view. In the absence of conflicting statement we go with the one person who has made a public statement...

The story does not fit with his character at all.
Remember when one of the cricket commenters called him a terrorist jokingly?
Instead of making a big thing out of it he laughed it off.
He is one cool cucumber and a shining example to both followers of Islam and Christianity on how to be religious without forcing it down onto others.

Amla has a good reputation, he is known to be an all-round good guy, those who know him knew this was false.
