For anyone interested in the WISP service provided by Amobia Communications, I strongly suggest you look at alternate solutions or providers and after hearing my experience you will understand why.

About 3 years ago I was with Amobia and from the get go, the service was not great. The technicians were not technically skilled and have no clue about customer service etiquette (I am not your friend bru). The wireless service was not great either as I kept loosing connectivity to the highsite. The technicians could not figure out why, so 3 months after signing up I eventually had to cancel the service as it was unusable and of course lost the R1999 installation fee.

Anyway, 3 years down the line I thought I would give it another go. I phoned the Amobia Sales and spoke to Karl Liebenberg who of course promised you the world. I was informed the highsite I previously connected to has been upgraded significantly. In no time, the documentation was completed and a site survey was completed, without coming out to my premises? I was informed the test was passed and we went ahead with the application (Sales Order IO000054).

Here is the sequence of events:
• On 25th July, I paid the installation fee of R1999 to Amobia, sent all the documentation to Karl Liebenberg who confirmed receipt and advised the Area Manager for Cape Town, Daemon Smith would contact me the next day, which of course he did not.
• On 26th July, Karl Liebenberg confirmed site survey was successful and without coming out to my premises? Area Manager, Daemon Smith would contact me.
• On 29th July, an installer by the name of Deon came to my premises to do the install but was an hour late. He spent 4 hours at my premises and the installation was unsuccessful. He was extremely unprofessional and could not even get my name right, seriously!
• On 30th July, Daeson phoned me to arrange for an installer to come out again the Sunday at 1pm to which I agreed.
• Sunday 31st July came and I waited all afternoon but no installer showed up.
• The next day, 1st August I had to phone Daeson to find out what happened and to arrange installer again. As usual, he was not available but will return my call. He eventually returned my call much later that afternoon.
• 2nd August, the new installer comes to attempt install again and after 4 hours was unsuccessful. This technician did not even bother to speak to me and even when he did, I could not make out what he was saying. Later Deon joined him and he explained to me that they could not get me connected.
• 3rd August, Daeson contacts me to explain the are not able to get me connected and cannot figure out why. He will arrange for a refund of my installation fee with the accounts team.
• Two weeks later after receiving no response, I contacted Daeson and Karl on the 19th August as I have not yet received my refund. Karl phoned me back stating he will email the accounts department and copy me on the communication which he did not.
• On the 31th August, I has still not received my installation fee refund and decided to contact the accounts department directly. I spoke with Carla Liederman who escalated to her account manager, Cindy Robinson as she was in the only person that can approve the refund. Cindy was however on training for the week and could only look at my request the following week.
• Today the 5th September, I phoned the accounts department again and spoke to Carla who is still awaiting feedback from Cindy. I asked to speak to Cindy directly who probably did not want to take my call as I was kept on hold for a long time before be advised she will return my call.

So the wait continues to see if the Account Manager Cindy Robinson will return my call. I just find it utterly ridiculous that the customer has to keep chasing the vendor to get some service.

A site survey signed off with no visit to site? = Google maps check without any proper radio path evaluation being done = disaster.

Absolutely shocking service!

I've been with Amobia for years. Not really by choice, but due to the lack of options available in my area (cellphone dead zone, no telkom, no fibre). I'm extremely unhappy with my connection at the moment!! It's the worst its ever been! This last week there has been times when it was simply unusable! I used to be one of the lucky ones that received responses from their support team. Not any more!

Strongly agree with you, if you are looking for a WISP seriously look for an alternate provider!

Best of luck trying to get your money back!

Wow. What a sh*t show. Thanks for sharing your story. I'll share this with everyone who was considering them - you should put this on their Facebook page, hellopeter and whatever other channels are easily reachable when a Google search for them is entered. Absolutely pathetic service all round... You should lodge a complaint with the relevant regulatory bodies too.

Unfortunately its seems as if they haven't changed with the times: Had Amobia for 3 years (2011 - 2014). Same story with no visit site survey. Luckily there was a signal on installation. Install team were two young techs with no customer etiquette (one tried to hit on my sis in law while installing, almost got a klap from her). Bit of a messy job that I had to fix up at my own time and cost. When I cancelled it was a mission to get hold of someone to authorize and then I was triple! billed for last month of service. took a further 6 months of back and forth before getting a refund. Service itself was pretty good, 4 days downtime in three years was a pretty good record but tech support etc. was non existent. My @amobia email address never materialized. Then they tried to come collect the CPE that I had bought privately :wtf:

Still get random R0 invoices from them - straight to junkmail. Great potential f-ed up by useless staff

If you do a forum search you will see how there are no positive reviews for these people.

Everyone complains when things go wrong but very rarely will someone dish out a compliment when things go right. I cannot comment on their wireless service but their gated community fiber service has been excellent thus far. For me anyway.

Huge difference between wireless and fibre.
Although their billing department was never great either.
