I have asked both Amobia and Smartvillage THREE times for a price list for fibre in Century City in the past two weeks.

Amobia - nothing.

Smartvillage - received a reply after I complained...but still no price list.

Well done guys.

Complain on twitter..... Unless they don't have a pricing model yet or worst exorbitant fees.

The National Service Manager from Smartvillage just emailed me. He is waiting for the CT office for feedback. So they are ignoring him too.

I sent you a PM. I work for one of the Century City Connect approved ISP's.

I had a similar experience. Ended up opting for Adsl.

I don't know. Unfortunately, because of the way the Century City Connect model is built, the internet is not the cheapest, but once you've experienced they joy of a 10Mbps or 20Mbps symmetrical fibre connection with less than 10ms ping and smooth 1080p HD streaming, ADSL is pretty hard to go back to.

I am currently with Amobia and their line speed is atrocious for the past few weeks.

Well done ATEC, seems like you are the only ISP that wants to do business.

I have come to the conclusion that Amobia must be closing down. They are now even ignoring problem tickets.

Interesting. They have slowly started losing some of their client base to us, due to service issues. Their CPE's are cheaper than ours though, which still makes them first choice for most prospective clients at CCC. I also hear rumors they are about to lose one of the CCC retirement complexes. This after Smart Village got kicked off the premises for being so bad the body corporate just couldn't take it any more.

Oh well, another day, another ISP problem.

I'm having to deal with smart village at the moment. Don't. Horrible quality of service, I'm having endless problems and the call centre could be replaced by an automated voice message saying "Have you tried turning it off and on?." They (the CT office) have been following up on my issues, since I ripped into them in an email, which I have been which I have been impressed by. And the tech who I have been dealing with (he is probably on this forum) has been great. But I have had 4 days of internet this month. I am going to see if I can cancel tomorrow, but fear I might be tied in to using them since they have a contract for the whole building.

Hi Satanboy,

Unfortunately not. You will need one of ATEC's Tilgin gateways in order to connect to the ATEC network. All ATEC roll-outs standardize on the Tilgin CPE, as the Tilgin VCM backend is crucial to the company maintaining its level of service.

The good news is that on CCC you have 2 options:

There is the "Advanced" CPE, which is a Tilgin HG2314, which is the standard device ATEC uses on all their FTTH estates. It has the normal specs, 3x3 MIMO Type N Wifi, 4x Gbps LAN ports, 2x RJ11 phone ports, and DECT compatibility (the unit will act as a DECT base station for a cordless DECT IP phone). ATEC sells these at cost to CCC customers for R1600.00, and installation is then free. Still not cheap, i realize.

Alternatively ATEC supplies the "Basic" Tilgin HG321 device. For a cost effective option, you can just select one of these. Then re-configure your ADSL router as a Wifi AP and patch it into the Tilgin. These devices are essentially supplied to the customer free of charge, but you will need to pay a R350.00 installation fee for the callout and on-premises setup.

I hear it isn't slowly...

Thanks! I will go for the "Basic" model as I don't need a phone or so many ports.

If I choose an uncapped package and after a month want to change to a capped package, would that be possible?

No problem. You can upgrade or downgrade your package at any time on a month to month basis.

So Amobia contacted me after three weeks of opening tickets without response. I then contacted the cancellation dept to be told to open a ticket about the reason I wanted to cancel, because they would like to rectify the problem and retain me as a client. I did so and it is now going on four weeks since I requested a price list on 3 occasions.

So I contacted them again this morning to confirm the cancellation.

Saying that you want to rectify a problem and ignoring it is clearly the same thing to them.
