I'm looking at getting a 2009 Chevrolet Captiva 2.0l diesel and the dealer has given me the option of purchasing a third party motorplan namely the AMP Advantage Motorplan, underwritten by Hollard.

Has anyone had any experience with these guys? I'm normally wary of these sort of things.

I'd phone a different Chev dealer and ask him which motor plan he recommends, if it's not the AMP ask his opinion on it.

Can't say I have any experience with this specific one tho.

Stay away bwana...

It looks like those typical plans, where the small print in the policy is there to bend you over the couch and take your wallet from you.

The dealer gets comms for promoting various maintenance schemes. Dont know AMP one first hand, but all my dealing with 3rd party maintenance schemes have been terrible. and when you cross reference the monthly installment (or once off payment) back to the value percentage they pay for, it never balances. Even if you blow a motor, you will still koka.

Please stay away from AMP, I had terrible issues with their warranty and ended up forking out out R5500 to sort out an issue on my car which they initially said they covered and then came up with excuses!!

I called them to confirm that the problem I was having is covered, they said it was. I paid up front for their 2 year cover, but when I tried claiming they said I only had a 1 year cover.

After I produced a copy of the original agreement (which they said they cannot find), they then starting making excuses and eventually said they will cover R1500 of the R9800 claim (in their terms and conditions it states that they will cover 'up to' a certain amount, and they don't have to cover the full amount!)!! I eventually got the vehicle repaired privately at a cost of R5500 that I paid myself!

Thanks everyone - I'm going to forgo the motorplan. Tomorrow I'll take the car for an AA DEKRA inspection and see what they have to say about the car.
