i have a random question...

I have a sony str-dn1000 amp and would like to know if anyone has a similar upscalling amp?

I have a dedicated blu-ray player connected to it...

My question is, how do you set it up for optimal sound on blu-ray?

I just want to make sure that the amp is set up properly, settings wise.

I usually watch movies on the setting 'cine.ex B' or something to that effect.

It shows that all the front speakers are active, but the back speakers are not. However, a little 's' shows up in between the back speakers when this setting is set. Does that mean all the speakers are working?

Yes, i know this is a retard question. I am a complete moron when it comes to setting up amps. The physical stuff is all set up properly, just need some guidance on the software setting stuff...

If the blu ray is connected via hdmi cable then you should get full sound and picture.
Did you setup the system yourself as the clips on the back of amp are sometimes difficult to setup with the speakers, those little turny jobs......

Check out the manual, it should allow you to run a test to see if sound comes through all speakers, also when you play a blu ray or dvd access the language or sound menu before you start the movie and select dts-hd or the highest quality sound setting or lpcm.
But the test will let you know if all speakers are setup correctly, then have alook at the manual, it will let you know what settings to select for movies , music etc.
EG multi stereo, stereo etc.
I have a different model though......

If you set your Sony AMP to "cine.ex B" which is a Sony specific setting, then basically the AMP takes a Stereo signal and convert via its own algorithm called "cine.ex B" to a sort of surround sound. This is definitely not true surround sound!

The S between the 2 back speakers mean, both speakers play the same sound called a "surround" channel.

To be honest, I hate fake surround sound, me personally would rather listen to the sound in stereo because it sounds better, again to me at least. Thus I have my Sony AMP on "A.F.D.", which means it automatically detect the format and switch the speakers on for what it detects. Thus if it is a stereo track, it switches into stereo mode, if its DD or DTS it switches into 5.1 mode for that ect. If there is no dedicated sub channel, it use the low frequencies from the 2 front channels, ect.

Hope that helps.
