... has very kindly removed IonCube PHP extension from my dedicated server, rendering my WHMCS software useless. I reported this on Thursday morning, complained to their Social team (who usually get things done), spoke to Thami at support @13:15 this afternoon who assured me that Critical Care would have the issue sorted out within 2 hours. It is now almost 7pm on a Saturday night and guess what? My mission critical website is still crippled because of this moronic support person who somehow managed to delete IonCube extensions instead of increasing my PHP memory limit.

I guess this means that Afrihost will only deem it necessary to address my concerns when they decide to rock up to their swishy offices on Monday morning, during which time my micro business is unable to operate at all.

I don't know how this company stays in business, I truly don't.

Do you have an SLA with them?

Not that I am aware of. I am using them on good faith, but this has seriously tested me beyond my limits and I am normally a very forgiving person.

Dedicated server but no way to manage it yourself? no thanks would rather take it upon my own hands but re-adding the extensions to the php.ini files really just takes minutes. Would love to hear the excuses for this.

Goodluck to you OP

Domains.co.za

Afrihost is not a real host.

I looked at them very closely and almost went there but they only offer self-managed servers. I don't have the knowledge or time to undertake that myself at this time. I do keep all my domains with them though. They seem to be pretty organised, unlike these cretins at Afrihost. Site still down because of this...

Hi there Pixual

Please PM the specs of your current server, flavor of linux and monthly cost and I'll see if we can provide a similar solution for you, fully managed with your flavor of Linux along with Full management and daily backups.

They have managed WHM servers.

What is your requirements?

This kind of customer service takes you places.

When I moved my dedicated from the US back to ZA last year they didn't. Has something changed since then?
Always been there.

Go to their website and check if any of those offerings will work.

I don't think they do. I specifically approached them about this when I was looking at moving last year and I had all but signed up when they told me that they don't manage their servers - that's for the customer to do.

Connect your existing WHMCS system directly into your cPanel Reseller account. Automatically provision your customers hosting packages directly from within your WHMCS.

Yeah, but those packages do not include management of the server itself. The customer is expected to install all the software, extensions, plugins, etc. Unless you know what you're doing (which I unfortunately don't have the time to learn) you could end up with a big problem. It's the management aspect that I have to rely on AH for, and which they are now showing themselves to be largely incapable of. :(

They are an ISP not a hosting company. If you want proper hosting then use Hetzner , finished and klaar !!!

The joke is that half the time I login to the server, its been restarted with no real reason for the restart. Also since the servers are managed you will find that alot of custom apps dont work on there.

Hetzner does not offer cPanel, therefore they are not eligible as a supplier for me, unfortunately.

Honestly, the responses I am getting from Afrihost to this debacle have been eye opening, to say the least. This is the response from their CC manager:

"Please note that Critical Care and 2nd level does not operate 24/7 like support does thus no further interaction from these 2 departments occurred over the weekend."

What the... ?

Can anybody recommend a good, reliable, local hosting company who are able to offer WHM/cPanel managed hosting? I cannot continue to pay Afrihost R1200 a month if this is the kind of operation they are running. It's ludicrous, to say the least.
