An idiot at Afrihost...

Why not just install cPanel on a dedicated server after you get one from Hetzner? For $5 you can get someone on fiverr to do it for you even.

This is doable? The problem then would still come down to support. I doubt Hetzner would support anything to do with cPanel.

Hi Pixual,

I've dropped you a PM, let's see what we can do for you.

Regards,
Dave @ Domains.co.za

Hetzner does not offer cPanel, therefore they are not eligible as a supplier for me, unfortunately.

Honestly, the responses I am getting from Afrihost to this debacle have been eye opening, to say the least. This is the response from their CC manager:

"Please note that Critical Care and 2nd level does not operate 24/7 like support does thus no further interaction from these 2 departments occurred over the weekend."

What the... ?

Can anybody recommend a good, reliable, local hosting company who are able to offer WHM/cPanel managed hosting? I cannot continue to pay Afrihost R1200 a month if this is the kind of operation they are running. It's ludicrous, to say the least.
Have you tried Gridhost?

They are part of the WebAfrica family/umbrella

Read up a bit and see if they can offer what you require

Edit
mobile version is not adding the url tags. Sorry

We run our own Cpanel servers, plenty of them.
Supporting CPanel is piss simple and support is included with your license anyway so if something goes really wrong you just reach out to Cpanel. Buy your license from a reputable reseller and they add additional support, I recommend NDC Host

As others have suggested, getting CPanel installed will cost you next to nothing, it is just copying and pasting commands.
Don't let this mislead you though, when your dedicated box at whatever host dies you are in for a bad time if you do not have external backups. This is probably the hardest part of managing your own CPanel server.

Your best bet is to sign up for re-seller hosting somewhere and plug those details into WHMCS, the recommended option from Domains is one such example, you won't need to install any software or maintain the server.

I am sure if you ask whichever host you give your business to nicely they will migrate you for free. Cpanel to Cpanel migrations is pretty simple so if they charge you it shouldn't be much.

edit: sorry one more thing: if you use a 3rd party for your domains and DNS you lose the ability to manage the DNS through CPanel. Make sure whoever you move to offers access to a DNS cluster else you will need to build your own.

Afrihost seems like a ludicrous choice for an ISP ^H^H^H (edit - Web Hosting Provider - of course I meant a web host).

I'm still shocked to learn that software like ionCube is in use today. With so many code choices available, why choose one that needs ionCube to work? Or, from the other perspective, why is there a need to protect your own code in this way?

Shocked

See, this is where most people go wrong. An ISP is not a hosting company.

Would you order a steak from a hotdog shop and expect it to be any good? no.

The reason why most ISP's go into the "let me host your website LOL" is because they have copious amounts of upload bandwidth since their upstream/downstream providers are synchronous, meaning for every 1mb down they have 1mb up. And since most sell 4mbps down/1mbps up for ADSL etc, they have this massive amount of capacity of selling hosting as well because those services will use the rest of their unused upload capacity.

Afrihost claims hosting is their bread & butter / focus, but ever since they entered the ADSL/Mobile Data ISP space, they have fallen behind their customer service when it comes to hosting (if they even were good hosts before, I wouldn't know)

So stop thinking your ISP can provide you with great hosting, it just doesn't happen. Ever.

Afrihost is not a real host.
Quoted for truth.

OP, feel your pain. I lost a lot of work trusting afrihost, and I had to go to their offices to get people to even lift a lazy finger.

You should ask WHMCS that question. And Invision Power Services. It's their requirements, not mine.

Just following up on this issue;

So since my problem last week I have been in touch with Domains.co.za and we seem to have been able to find something that should work well for my needs as a reseller using their managed servers. I will hopefully be shod of Afrihost very soon.

Interestingly, yesterday I completed one of their (AH's) client satisfaction surveys regarding my interaction with their Critical Care Manager, giving him a pretty poor score and explaining my reasons for doing so. I'm not joking but within hours of me doing that suddenly my server slowed down to the point where it is now absurdly slow. New ticket to their support advises me that my site is too large and that is what is slowing it down. There have been no changes to the site scripts since sometime last year. Very interesting indeed.

What kind of people are these?
