Heyup
So we retired our two 2kVa UPS'es and installed three new 3kVa UPS'es in the server room
However, there is a slight problem.
USP monitoring.
How can I monitor three UPS'es, and send out shutdown signals when the battery's getting low?
On the previous two UPS'es we had, I used a hardware dongle, which plugged into the serial port of the UPS, and then you plug that dongle into the network. UPS monitoring is then done by an agent using SNMP. Should power go out, the servers monitoring said dongle will pick it up, and should battery get low, start a shutdown sequence.
Now I have tested this hardware dongle on the new UPS'es, and the serial protocol used by the new UPS'es is not supported.
Now my options is to either have one server (or a Windows workstation - also on UPS) monitor three UPS'es and send out a shutdown signal - or allow other servers to monitor this particular server/workstation for a shutdown signal and start it if there's a shutdown signal.
Which (free) software do you guys recommend to use in this scenario?
Thanks!
