So, I was just called this morning to be offered a place in a trial of the new Mnet DVB-T decoders.

After a 22 minute phone call (!), followed up by a second person checking all my details as captured by the first, it seems I will be getting a new aerial, and a DVB-T Mnet decoder installed free of charge (temporarily, unfortunately!).

I'll report back if anyone is interested in what it is like.

If only we could get the free to view channels like the UK.

Well, it seems like there should be a few extra channels available on the decoder over and above the standard Mnet. The guy mentioned Al Jazeera, CNBC, and a bunch of others.

I've tested with a DVB-T receiver card in my PC last year, and was able to pick up SABC-{1,2,3} and ETV without any difficulty, though. Not sure which other "free" channels you would want?

ROLMAO...its mostly junk and shopping channels...so after the novelty has worn off of having a VeriMark channel you'll head back to the video store.:D

Yeah. To be honest, I don't even watch that much TV, I'm more interested from a technology perspective - "how technology can change something that has developed over the past 60 years".

My ideal would be for the device to include PVR facilities, but I suspect that that is unlikely to happen. I'm interested to see how it might work with an existing DVR setup, too, as well as the interactions between the DVB {,de}compression and the DVR compression.

I suspect that it will still end up being better quality than my current setup! /me needs to get my existing analogue antenna properly aligned!

I don't have a specific list of channels in mind, but I can tell you that the free to view channels in the UK are such that I have never bothered looking into getting a paid service.

I got a tuner for my TViX 6500 media player and tested it in Korea (ATSC) where there's loads of free HD and SD channels (68 off) to watch.
