Here are the results from the independent Ananzi poll regarding ADSL:

As an ADSL user in South Africa, are you satisfied with the service?

Total: 721 votes

Yes: 72 (10%)
No: 599 (83%)
Undecided: 50 (7%)

This result will soon be interpreted by Beyers (statistical analysis of accuracy etc.) and the result posted here.

Thanks to everybody that voted. We hope this settles the issue and will be accepted as an independent poll in future discussions with Telkom and the media. Thanks again to ASnogarD for making this possible.

Excellent news. If you knock off 10% for those few people who voted twice, it still proves a point. Telkom: we're no longer the minority.

i hope that this poll will have results and that it will infact have an effect on telkom , but who knows again how much do they realy care .
 
We should all leave a permanent ping running on our machines to their website in protest of their below par DSL service. They can't cut everyone off, and they'll have to do *something* if 4,000+ plus people ping them all day. It's better than picketing outside the Telkom offices [:)]

They can by configuring their firewalls to drop pings. Plus they will play the marketing card by saying they're a victim of a DDOS attack and use it as an excuse to throttle users even more!
 
I hate to be the partypooper here, but those figures dont look all that great to me. Yay, so 721 people voted. How many were MyADSL users?

Do you know what Telkom's response will be? "Yes, a majority of those votes are due to MyADSL users hitting the poll", and you know I would have to say I agree. The first thing we all did when we read it in the forum was click on the link and vote. And thats great! We all want to voice our opinions and be proactive, but see, Telkom already know there are roughly 500-1000 MyADSL members who are pissed off with their service.

IF we (MyADSL users) had instead spent our energy making people aware of the poll, the small figure of 721 votes would have conveyed a whole lot more than just "+-500 MyADSL users decided to voice their distaste yet again".

Purely for interest sake it would be nice to know how many of those votes were independent of MyADSL. Of course that is never going to happen. By the way, this is why you have companies out there whose sole income is derived from doing surveys.

Just a few thoughts.

No its not. Read the post and think outside of the box for a second. These kneejerk reactions to criticism only serve to increase the NOISE ratio on the forums

I am merely saying that a vast majority of the votes were MyADSL users and are very likely not an accurate reflection of NON-MyADSL users feelings. If you dispute that Telkom dont know of our existence mayhaps you should open your mind a little. Right now your interest should lie in getting EXTERNAL opinions e.g. votes from people who have nothing to do with MyADSL and bring those results/opinions to the attention of the media.

If you do this (as MyADSL has done in the past) I am confident such results would carry a lot more weight/credibility.

no, but keep in mind, the general public with adsl out there are uninformed dumbasses who still thinks by playing mp3's you'll get virus infections... if you get what i'm saying

you'd be suprised how many people are not satisfied with the service, but "keep on trucking" in any case

Nope, I wouldn't be surprised at all. I can believe that there are hundreds if not thousands of unsatisfied customers. Especially if I consider the percentage of disatisfaction that exists within my social-circle. However all we are doing now is making the voice of MyADSL heard, and not the man-in-the-street plebes. Unfortunately Telkom does not consider MyADSL to be the voice of the man-in-the-street and as much as this may irk us, we needs to start working with it.

true, i'll sponsor a grand towards a campaign to inform people out there.... heck, most of them don't even know of any south african search engines, they use google....pfff :)

To be precise, the page was viewed 455 times, that means maximum of 455 myadsl users could have read the post.
And even that is an inflated figure, as I'm sure most of us, like me have probably viewed the post from different Pc's, and, many who read the post didn't vote either, I personally didn't as I was smart enough not to get ADSL, so my vote is rather inconclusive.

yeah, so out of 721, a thumbsucks guess tells me 300 voters came from the thread. [^]
 
Based on the following assumptions:
1)The poll, size 721, represents a random sample from the total population of ADSL users
2)The proportions involved follows a normal distribution

we can state at a 5% significance (95% confidence) level that more than 80% of the total ADSL population would prefer NO as an answer to the poll question.

Note regarding assumptions: Assumption 1 may be inaccurate. Assumption 2 is plausable due to the sample size.
 
Assumtion 2 also depends partly ons assumtion 1, as a requirement for approximation to the normal distribution is that the sample must be randomly selected from the population.

But they won't (can't) block HTTP GET requests to their webserver now can they? What would be the point of having a webserver then [;)]

So... to bring them down one has to Floodnet them.....
