Ananzi Sux

For a proper search engine, you need a bot that will regularly query web pages for any changes. That will use up a lot of bandwidth and in SA bandwidth is too expensive to do this.

Made to resemble google and hosted locally so it works when ur capped and it's fast. Spidering is AFAIK also locally done.

Really surprised this search engine isn't more well known, it rox.
 
There is always funnel.co.za. They seem to be quite heavily google based
 
Ananzi is nothing more than a glorified advertising page. I used it now, and got what I wanted. But I didn't do a search. I needed to hire a car in Jhb, and one of their links helped me out. But if you search for something on there, like a specific webpage etc, forget about it.

With access locally not being capped on IS ( and it seems like SAIX as well ) wouldn't it be good if a proper search engine got of the mark, but only indexing local content ?

But then again, can we actually name ten SA websites that are worth visiting ?

Does nobody else see the irony here, Ananzi uses GoogleAds on their site :D look at the bottom of the page if you do not believe me.
 
Actually Ananzi uses the google backend but yeah the best one for local I have found is http://www.funnel.co.za

Also the google.co.za works but unfortunatly is hosted in the US atm. According to a inside lead they have been at a looking hosting centre
 
I was starting an awesome search engine a few years ago but realised that the bandwidth required would cost me roughly 1,000 times as much here as abroad.

It even had pageranks :(
