Ananzi users warned off by Google

I was surprised to discover both Ananzi and Aardvark are still operating. Haven't visited either of the two in at least five years.

mwuhahahaha

Code:
Server Error in '/' Application.

Runtime Error

Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.

Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

<configuration>
    <system.web>
        <customErrors mode="Off"/>
    </system.web>
</configuration>

Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

<configuration>
    <system.web>
        <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="mycustompage.htm"/>
    </system.web>
</configuration>

well... if they take a zillion years to fix a simple XSS vulnerability... then they deserve to get ****ed. Oh wait.. they must've been part of the "CAREER: Required - someone with 10 years experience in every language and operating system for R15000/month while we buy ourselves large houses and expensive cars" crowd.

big, round, fluffy... LOL.

I use their free pop email service...fortunately there is (currently) nothing wrong with that ;)

Haha, I remember those sites. There was also Zebra. Never been to any in years either. I know Brabys owns one cause they harass me weekly by phone to advertise on one of these virtual graveyards.

Let's be honest... they were never really that great to begin with... were they?

VIVA GOOGLE! Especially now that it's local :)
Unfortunately ananzi just doesn't cut it for me personally anymore (well, since 10 years ago)... I just can't stand the idea of having to face so many ads and sponsored/filtered results. Google's algorithms place South African results first in a general search query anyway, and the same applies wherever you are in the world. Unfortunately, competing search engines stand little chance today, especially those who clearly couldn't be bothered about having innovation and user-satisfaction as their priority... and I can say the same for webmail.co.za too - it used to be a great free service, then they overdid the ads and forced spam into your mailbox. I use to have a highveldmail account which worked off webmail's system, and then they moved the mail server to France. What's up with that? It's a SOUTH AFRICAN service you darn stingy non-patriotic rejects! Why should I put up with that? Now we have Gmail which is free and puts your privacy first - not to mention its super intuitive interface, ample functionality (IMAP, excellent spam filter, etc), and of course 8GB of storage & virtually guarenteed uptime/stability/safety of your mail... you really don't even need to think twice about which way to go...? these competing 3rd party sites are soo 1990, and they're going to really have to offer something unique, overhauled, and less intrusive if they're to survive much longer... ie stuff that competes with the likes of Google's new "Instant" results? Web 2.0 is here - AJAX, faster Javascript web applications... why settle for less!?

shame lol
Hehehe.. adapt or die ;) No time for politically correct / praising something not worthy xD Competition breeds innovation, and at the end of the day people are free to do what they want. IF you WANT to support ananzi because its local, go for it, but you're just not going to get the same quality of service; on the contrary, they clearly couldn't care whether you do anyway, as long as you click one of those ads which make the search box look like a needle in a haystack anyway. That's a fact, not my opinion? Sorry if it sounds crude - after all they're welcome to change that?

About three years ago I just stopped ever visiting Ananzi... imho they were slow and full of ads. Good riddance to bad rubbish... pity it has to be a SA site, but for a search engine that really did market well when they started and got a lot of support for their sleek service, I think they have become a crap site now. I wonder if this could be the start of the end for them.

Ananzi says Google’s ad network to blame.

I didn't read anything about that in the article...:confused:

Ananzi MD Mark Buwalda said that they are well aware of the problem which they narrowed down to a problem with an ad server. Buwalda added that they are keen to resolve the problem today.

pwned

even banned on twitter (try tweeting with their full URL and twitter gives an alert)

Used Ananzi back in the day when Yahoo was pretty much the dominant search engine. How many years ago was that ? Is Yahoo still around ;)
