ANC debating nationalising Telkom

I wonder what the outcome of this debate was...

The ruling ANC is debating ways to nationalise struggling Telkom, a delegate at the party’s five-yearly policy conference said on Friday (29/06/2012).

"There is support for the measure but it will not be included in the economic report because of the sensitivity,” the delegate told Reuters on the sidelines of the conference.

"We discussed financing mechanisms to buy out the share not held by government and pension funds,” the delegate added.

I rekon that the goverment should sell off their entire share of Telkom - Allow the competition to get in, and get rid of the rot & corruption there. Otherwise, as Kingrob says, there won't be much of a Telkom left in a few years time.

Corruption? Political interference, yes.

If Telkom becomes fully state-owned, then Telkom employees will get government salaries!

Telkom jobs will become the envy of the whole telecoms sector in South Africa.

IMO Telkom would do much better if the government let the KT Thing happen, and sold their stake in the company.

Government these days seems to focus more on themselves and getting more tax money in than helping its people.

if Government has a stake in Telkom, why can't the man on the street (the majority you so kindly represent) afford internet via Telkom?

And shares in ALL other telcos as well, whether directly or indirectly held via govt service pensions funds or ANC "fundraising" consortia.

All the cANCer does is looking at ways to get more money. Isn't it governments responsibility to looke at ways to improve a country as a whole? Why do they think they run a business?
