You'de think the ANC would be used to being embarrased by now.

TBH as much as I hate to admit it the ANC may have a point here. The Media is more and more becoming an entertainment business that tries to foster the maximum amount of anger and drama out of stories that do not warrant it. In almost every instance of a news article where I know the background facts the media blew it completely out of proportion. They do it to sell more papers and generate more clicks and it is misrepresentation and distortion of facts. We do actually need better enforcement of media exaggeration and misreporting as often the media creates more chaos out of nothing which creates waste as people have to scramble money and time to try correct incorrect negative portrayals.

I think given how much this government tries to sweep crap under the carpet, on balance the press underreports shenan-igans.
 
Probably, but again, I have known the back story to a few news items and in every case it felt like the press had interviewed everyone involved, realized the story was boring, and then had dug up crazy uncle Joe with his alien abduction side theory and chose to print his version. While I am a huge fan of the free press and know exactly how badly we need their whistle blowing powers I also am seeing a disturbing trend where they are transforming from factual information disseminators to being glorified entertainment companies who generate their own controversy at the expense of the ordinary people they write about.
