Cape Town - Residents of Mitchells Plain braved the rain and cold on Tuesday to listen to new Democratic Alliance party leader Mmusi Maimane at a rally in the suburb, reported Netwerk24.

“We are ready for Mmusi," and "Viva DA, viva,” chanted hundreds of the party's supporters as he spoke using a loudspeaker.

Maimane told the gathered crowd that the ANC were succeeding in trampling over former President Nelson Mandela’s dream of a democratic South Africa.

“The ANC are implementing reverse apartheid,” he said.

“The party and the government aren’t creating opportunities for South Africans. At least 25% of people are unemployed.

“The DA will now make sure that the dream of a democratic South Africa will come true,” he added.

The event was part of a DA campaign for freedom, equality and opportunity.

"This is my second visit to Mitchells Plain and certainly not my last," he continued.

"Enough is enough. South Africans are tired. The government provides no opportunities for South Africans.

I'm sorry Mmusi, but I don't agree. If anything, this seems like a cheap attempt at belittling just how terrible Apartheid was. The ANC has done a lot wrong, but nothing near as bad as the NP. The ANC (as an organisation) is like the dumb kid at the back of the class. He means to do well, and thinks that he does, but he hardly ever gets the answers right. he doesn't mean to do any harm though. Also, he says that the ANC doesn't provide opportunities, but claims to want a market based economy. What macroeconomic policy shift would he bring, the ANC has done a great job overall with economic policy.

Are you speaking on behalf of the coloured community now? Those who were too black for the old government and too white for the new one?

The definition of Apartheid is a policy or system of segregation or discrimination on grounds of race.

No. What made you think that I was? I don't think that I claimed to.

Well you're saying you don't agree with what Maimane was saying. So now I'm confused
Are you saying he's wrong that there is no reverse racism?

I'm saying that calling ANC policy the opposite of Apartheid is wrong and seems disrespectful to those who suffered under it. That is my opinion, at no time did I claim to be speaking on behalf of anyone.

Right, so you agree that apartheid v.2 is justified because of apartheid v.1. No matter that Maimane is 100% correct by calling it reverse apartheid.

Ok then.

LMAO. The same policy that's instilled a culture of entitlement and monthly strikes...

... but you forgot to add, that the dumb kid at the back of the class, is also in charge of the class school fees. The fees that should be used for improvements of the class, replacing the broken window that the Bailey Twins broke last week, replace the abacus with the educational tab, buy a new first aid kit for the class, ...etc...but he is seen every interval at the tuck shop...living it large...yet the class looks like crap... this in not dumbness, its cupidity and immorality...that has been sanitised, and has been accepted as the norm.

"The ANC has done a great job overall with economical policy" - if that be the true, pls advise why is the unemployment rate not gone down, why are we living through an energy crisis? Why is the ZAR depreciating at such an alarming rate?, again etc... If you think ZA is in great state, sorry dude time for you to re-evaluate ...and smell the java

I'm saying that we are not in Apatheid version 2, and that calling current policies that makes a mockery of the real struggles which people went through.

While unemployment is high, most of these are structural issues. SA has weathered the post 2008 recession (could later be called a depression) far better than many other countries. We only grew 1.3% last year, but we did grow. Have you seen the growth rates in places like Ireland and Greece since 2008?

The reality (and explicit goal) was much more than that.

Yes, simple racial classification was the smallest part. People seem to have quickly forgotten just how **** Apartheid really was.

Not at all. You're lumping atrocities committed under apartheid as apartheid. Which is not the case. Apartheid as it stands is a policy built on discriminating on race. This is exactly what BEE and AA does. He is 100% correct no matter how you feel about his statement it's factual and true. You can't lob crimes committed under apartheid as apartheid.

He sounds as dumb as some of the forum member, reverse apartheid? Really?

Apartheid was bad okay. We get that. It was discrimination. The new BEE policy is discriminatory too. I see 1 + 1 = 2. So does Maimane. Not difficult to understand. Oh wait sorry I forgot - if it's black against white then it can't be racism or discrimination. My bad....

If I (or do all members have to?) go along with this, what would you have me call, the systematic removal of voting rights, freedom of movement, forced removals, bans on marriages, loss of citizenship and other atrocities, committed against non-white people in SA?

How long dude, will the old platitudes be heated up and served? " While unemployment is high, most of these are structural issues" - when will this be addressed...?? we have 5+ national departments task with economic growth, and we have seen virtually seen no ROI ... we spend the most on education on the continent, and what do we have to show for our investment...?? I understand where we come from, and understand, that most of the shortcoming of the now, are directly related to the past...but in the present, nothing substantial is being done, so that tomorrow would be brighter for all...all that is being done is making sure that some line their pockets, with no regard for tomorrow...

Crimes. That is why those who did them are either in jail, faced the TRC and got amnesty or just never got caught/pointed out. Again, these were crimes committed under Apartheid.
