Cape Town - The ANC’s attempt to sue the City of Cape Town over its logo was dismissed on Wednesday by the Western Cape High Court.

“The ANC in the Western Cape does not have the locus standi to bring the application,” read Allie’s ruling.

Standing outside the courthouse, chief whip of the ANC in the Western Cape Xolani Sotashe reacted to Judge Rosheni Allie’s ruling saying that despite losing this legal battle, the party would not give up their fight.

“We are disappointed but we will not take this lying down, we will keep on fighting because we believe it is in the public’s interest,” said Sotashe.

The matter began in early 2014 after the City of Cape Town launched its new logo and pay-off line which the ANC argued had gone ahead without necessary public participation.

Sotashe stated that the design – by agencies Yellowwood and King James – had reportedly cost more than R300 000 and implementation exceeded R8 million.

These adopted changes, argued the ANC, were akin to that of renaming streets and required public consultation as it had cost implications for ratepayers.

The city, however, argued that the public had indeed been consulted as the logo and pay-off line changes formed part of its Integrated Development Plan which had been subjected to public consultation.

However, those ANC members present at court, including Sotashe, expressed their unhappiness with the ruling.

They're continuing their streak. Surprised the City lost the Wynberg MyCiti case though
 
How ironic. They lambasting City of Cape Town for not following through with public opinion, yet they do the exact same thing and implement laws and BS without consulting us? Someone needs to stop calling the other one black here....
 
If the ANC had spent over R8 million implementing a logo change (after spending R300,000 on the design) everyone would be up in arms about the waste of money and gravy trains, but because it's the DA apparently it's fine, insignificant and people must just 'deal with it'.
 
And the ANC will try and merge provinces with as little public participation as possible.

It's impossible to do that. It requires the affected legislatures approval and a constitutional amendment

The ANC does not even bother pretending anymore that there is any separation between the government and the political party. One can safely assume that taxpayer's money is being used to pursue the party's little adventures in the legal system.

Do you have a source for your claim that the ANC paid for this little jaunt out of their own pockets? Because considering they're a party of thieves, it's far more likely they paid for it with our hard-earned money.

In theory that is how it works, but when it comes to the ANC the burden of proof is on the ones who claim that they are not a bunch of lying, scheming scumbags.

There is this little thing called a national budget where all the money spent by the government is audited and accounted for. Do you really think opposition parties wouldn't notice if government money was being spent by the anc in court cases?

Since neither side has concrete evidence, all we have to go on is the past behaviour of the ANC. Given that past behaviour - i.e. thievery, embezzlement, corruption, incompetence, and general disregard for taxpayers' money, not to mention inability to separate party and state - a reasonable conclusion would be that they are continuing that trend with this case.

You want to make the claim that the ANC are behaving differently, you provide the proof.
