East London - Academic programmes of two township school adjacent from each other were disrupted by an African National Congress election rally in Ward 7 at Duncan Village in East London.

Parents of learners from Inyathi primary school and Mzokhanyo high school were disturbed when the ANC took its campaign rally to a field a stone’s throw away from the schools.

"How can children concentrate on school work when there is music and cheering outside the window? What are they saying about my niece’s education? I love the ANC but this was poorly my organised," Ntombekhaya Biko told News24.

Biko who was also attending the event said learners left school earlier than expected because of the disruption.

ANC provincial secretary Oscar Mabuyane acknowledged to journalists that it was a mistake to place an ANC truck so close to the two schools.

"I was concerned myself when I arrived seeing that probably the location of the venue isn't one we would be happy with as the ANC. Unfortunately we arrived and everything has been set up. It must be regretted."

Bull slaughter

To the ANC education was everything, Mabuyane told journalists.

He promised the community of ward 7 that slaughter two bulls would be slaughtered should the ANC win with 100% in August.

"This ward must give us a win so that we can give you cows. We will slaughter cows that can fill up this entire field. We will do it. We don't just talk we act," he said.

Mabuyane said he would continue campaigning until the day of elections.

Several learners dressed in that in their school uniforms attended the event. The programme started a little after 13:00.

2 cows or bulls won't cover an entire field.
