So last night I receive the following SMS from +27 83 9200140:
"Make your vote count. Please vote ANC and build a Safer, Livable and Prosperous City for all South Africans. Together lets build better communities. VOTE ANC!"

Two fundamental problems:
- I am a perm-resident and am not eligible to vote
- Where did the ANC get my cell number from (looking it up via smscodes or WASPA renders no results for the above number).

Before this threads deteriorates into some political discussion: To me it does not matter which party had sent the SMS, but having never opted in to receive such communication surely violates CPA and WASPA rules - or?

I heard of similar complaints on 702 (SMS from DA and ANC) and the suspicion was that this was data retrieved from the voters registry - something I would not be on.

Got one from Anc and Da at around 6 am, wonder if they really think sms work. on a side note the Anc provided a opt out number Da did not. But hey it only comes on one day out of two years so does not really matter to me.

my wife just showed me an sms from Helen Zille which was most likely a sms from the DA with her name at the bottom.

I got one too. I replied by saying 'Sorry, I won't vote for you because I am against corruption' :D

Not only the anc but the da too, a relative of mine got smss. I didn't get an sms, but i'm not a citizen so they probably send out to those allowed 2 vote, where they got that data i don know

Who knows where they got our numbers!

I find it offensive if ANY political party SMS me and try to coerce me into voting for them.

My wife and I have received tons of sms's and calls from the DA the last few weeks. About 2 sms's each today and I received a call this morning to remind me to vote.

'The DA smsd me to vote but what really ticked me off was that the ANC sent me a please call me.' :D Goes something like that.

I heard the DA send out SMS`s which annoyed some people, what pissed people off really though was the "Please Call Me's" they got from the ANC.

10 mins in and out, sounds like my wedding night but anyway, big white guy in front of us has an issue with the people in charge cause he is not registered but wants to vote. They tell him there is nothing they can do. I believe he went off at the other people sitting at a table that why is he not on the register when they bring all the K###### in from the eastern cape.
