An attempted attack on ANC Western Cape chairman Marius Fransman will be investigated, the party said on Tuesday.

The African National Congress would "act swiftly and decisively" against those responsible, provincial spokesman Phillip Dexter said in a statement.

On Friday, the Cape Times reported that about 50 residents had tried to attack Fransman at a meeting in Oudtshoorn last Tuesday.

He had gone to Oudtshoorn to answer questions about the town's mayor Gordon April being replaced by Charlie Wagenaar.

Four people, including Die Son journalist Hein Coetzee, were arrested in the ensuing fracas.

"At about 9pm a mob, let me call them thugs, of about 50 people had gathered outside. They were breaking the windows and glass to try to get inside, and the building was in lockdown for an hour," Fransman told the newspaper.

Dexter said the ANC believed certain people, including some council officials, had plotted to disrupt the process of changing the Oudtshoorn council's leadership.

"They have also vandalised council property and threatened people with physical harm. Such activities are unacceptable."

The ANC would investigate and might lay criminal charges against those involved in the alleged plot, he said.

"While these issues have been difficult to deal with, the [provincial executive council] remains resolute that it will act in the interests of the people of Oudtshoorn and of the ANC membership."

And this is why the DA will continue to govern the Western Cape. The ANC is destroying itself from the inside and the opposition parties are just standing back and watching it happen (with a big bag of popcorn)

It's also the only time the cANCer would "act swiftly and decisively" if it's against one of their own.

What about "acting swiftly and decisively" on crime, rape and corruption.

You cANCer are the thugs or Mob Bosses IMO.
