The ruling party has disbanded the ANC Youth League, according to reports on Monday.

Business Day newspaper and SABC radio news quoted unnamed sources as saying the decision was made at the African National Congress' national executive committee meeting at the weekend.

It also reportedly decided to disband the executive committee of Limpopo province and give Limpopo premier Cassel Mathale the boot.

The New Age newspaper said the Limpopo provincial executive committee --which did not back President Jacob Zuma at the ruling party's national elective conference in December -- was dissolved. ANC spokesman Keith Khoza told the daily: "We are having a press conference tomorrow [Monday]."

The SABC said ANC spokesman Jackson Mthembu would not confirm the reports either, referring queries to the media conference scheduled for noon.

The state broadcaster said ANCYL Gauteng secretary Ayanda Kasa-Ntsobi confirmed that the league had been disbanded, and added that the youth league would not oppose the decision.

The ANCYL has been led by its deputy president Ronald Lamola since its former president Julius Malema was expelled from the ANC last year.

In December, Malema sent the ANC conference a letter asking for his job back, but at the time it was decided his letter had been received too late, and that the programme had already been adopted.

The ANC and ANCYL have held two meetings this year to discuss weaknesses within the party's youth wing, including its lack of a permanent leader.

Delegates at the ANC conference resolved that the incoming NEC should meet the ANCYL to sort out issues between the two.

Purge, purge purge the political dissenters...

The dictatorship strengthens.

That being said, losing the yoof leeg as it is today is no loss. Same can be said about the cancer in limpopo. If only both institutions would be replaced by competent, honest structures, but what are the chances?

No wonder people are complaining about these articles. It is the ANCYL's NEC that has been disbanded not the entire as the title and article appear to say.

Here,
There was no official statement, announcing that the African National Congress Youth League’s (ANCYL) National Executive Committee (NEC) was disbanded on Sunday but members of the ruling party and former members of the league have taken to Twitter to confirm.

The NEC of the youth league was allegedly disbanded by its parent body on Sunday afternoon, because of political in-fighting within the league.

Attempts to contact African National Congress (ANC) spokespeople, members of the National Executive for the parent party, the youth league and even the presidency have proven futile on Sunday, with no official confirmation that the league’s NEC is no more.

But the ANC’s Clayson Monyela confirmed the dissolution on Twitter, along with former youth league spokesperson, Floyd Shivambu.

Eyewitness News understands that issues within the league’s leadership led to the ANC pushing for a new executive committee in the league.

Meanwhile, an interim NEC is expected to be announced shortly as the process to elect a new leadership begins.
This is likely true because a member of the NEC of the youth league confirmed she received a letter informing her she has been removed from her position.

The really good news for me is the disbandment of the Limpopo PEC whose sole function has been to loot the province without consequence.

So basically, if you do not tow the ANC line or more to the point, do not tow the Zuma line, you will get "sorted out". The ANCYL became critical of the ANC and especially Zuma and then the Limpopo privinical executive does not back Zuma and both go bye-bye. The dicktator rules with an iron fist I see.

The problem is that recourse to this cash is non-existent, and they refuse to lay charges against the perpetrators. Being removed from your position is not a suitable punishment that fits the crime. While it appears on the face of it to be a step in the right direction, I question the supposed pure motives here. I'm quite sure that this is simply a way to easily plant pro-Zuma-camp individuals into senior positions. i.e. support us and we'll support you - this isn't about rooting out corruption or there'd be far more serious consequences...

Yeah, not sure if I am happy or sad about this. Zuma strengthening his position to an even more "unquestionable" / "unchallengable" position is not good, but getting rid of the !@# in Limpopo is great, and shutting down the ANCYL is great because they have not contributed to SA in the last 15 years.

Of course the moves are political nothing to do with how Limpopo was looted and continues to be at every level of government. It's easier for the ANC to go after Limpopo than the other troublesome provinces like GP where Zuma wasn't supported. In Limpopo the provincial nominations for Limpopo excluded all of the Zuma supporter because they were disrupting conference while Gauteng simply voted and they can hide behind democratic processes there.

Hopefully, with the leadership of Limpopo out in the cold they can be pursued by authorities Malema style.

OK, fine the YL is disbanded, but where are the exec committee etc being deployed to.

I would assume that they are not being "fired"
