Cancellation approved, service will be terminated at end of month.

Thank God for that, the thought of another 17 months x R650 for a connection the same speed as a freakin' modem is enough to make anyone feel slightly ill.

Now it's time to do some serious ADSL research to find out the best deal ...

thats a good plan! My adsl is being installed as we speak! Nice! Drop me a mail if I should help you out with info for adsl! Got everything and monthly payment is R750 for 2.5 times the speed of MyLameness 128!

Good point Rhino - must ask about that.
I've only been paying for 8 months out of a 24month contract, so I'm not sure what that would amount to.

I've got to get an ADSL modem anyway - looking at options - seen one for about R500 with ethernet and USB connections - saw one at sybaritic for R374 which will work out to R400 odd with shipping - but it's got no ethernet connection.

Hey koosbeer - who did you go through as ISP ?
I just went the easy route and bugger the research - phoned a few friends who are happy with telkomsa + we have them as an ISP on the work ADSL and I've never had any problems.

I guess you went the same option as me - the 384 line - cool thing is you can upgrade it at any time free of charge + can cancel the connection any time too - no more crappy contracts.

So, Telkom have 3 weeks to get me hooked up and then no more Sentech woes.

For interest sake, it took 25 seconds to load this page on MyCareLess and it'll probably take 50 seconds from hitting Post to displaying the post successful page [xx(]

Un-Freakin'-Believable.

I can see it now - I'll kill my ADSL cap in the first week of getting it :)

Ive got a D-link ADSL modem with built in 4port switch for R650+ and a surge protector for R160+.

Oh, and it theory, you should get back R150 x 8 months from the modem.

Please let me know what they say.

Will do, but I don't hold up much hope - the fact that I've got out of the contract is great, if I can get a rebate on the modem, even better.

I'm actually glad I got the 384 ADSL connection after reading a bit on the ADSL forum section. Seems it's the better option price/speed.

Still, it's really sick what Telkom are doing to the industry - I've been driven back to them because it's clear how much hold they have over everyone. Not much point in going anywhere else right now.

Anyway, a month by month connection basis is what convinced me to go back to Hellkom - as soon as a better "tested" option is available, I can dump ADSL. Alternatively, better ADSL packages could be an option next year.

IS will be releasing their ADSL offering to the public hopefully end of this month.
They'll have 3GB,6GB,9GB and uncapped if I remember correctly

256k ... BAH..more like 25.6k
FSCK YOU Sentech!! [:(!]

Sounds interesting - I would imagine they will be competitive.
That's the one benefit of a month-to-month, just like dialup, you can jump ISP anytime you want if something better comes along.

I think I'll make this a sig for a while :-

That's a download from mozilla ftp - the same download, on the work ADSL line, was around 20KB/s, so there's no dought it's not the mozilla FTP server at fault for the shocking state of the download speed.

It's so bad, I'm finding it hard to comprehend [:D]
I've had about 2 weeks of this which prompted me into cancellation.

I have NEVER seen speeds as bad as this for 5 years on ANY isp !

It's a bloody well rip-off !
