What will happen re shaping now ? And the cap? Most will still rely on Telkom for a fair while yet. To enable people to utilise these services Telkom will have to adjust their products such as the 3GB ADSL package etc.

Could this mean short-term access prices rocket to compensate for cheaper communications, negating the benefits of the legalised services?

I am no expert but I imagine a lot is going to have to change.

It's great news though. HA HA HA HA Nxsana.[:D]

Well it's definitely good news for everyone except Telkom and it's foreign investors. Telkom's share price has already dropped 6% on the announcement and they are complaining that they weren't consulted about it.

I think that what happened here is that Telkom went too far in deciding to fire like 3500 workers after making 4.5 Billion profit. That doesn't sit too well with a socialist government. Now it's open season.

Oh happy day!

Yes, the whoop your ass Train has finally come to Telkom and will see the Fat cats crying.

Google is so smart,I typed in Hellkom and guess what google said

Don`t you mean.....<insert evil laugh>
TELKOM!

Well I don't know about crying. They have kindof made like 10 Billion Rand profit in the last three years at our expense. I'm sure that will keep them warm at night, and they are still going to be the dominant player in the SA Telcoms and Internet market for many a long year to come. But at least this is a good first step towards bringing some level of Sanity to the SA Telco environment.

But to quote the man....

"This is not the end, it is not even the beginning of the end, it is only the end of the beginning".

If I was Teklom (and a complete bastard) id's raise the prices of everything another 9% now. Make maximum profit while you can - there is nothing we/gov can do about it.

Looking back at Tekloms history in times of contraversy, I would not be surprised at all if they did this, they'd (Teklom) say it is to make it more difficult for the competition to utilise Teklom's resources to compete against Teklom (Which would be true.).

Wait for it ... its coming. (Disclaimer - No facts at all were used to make up this theory.)

that would be a bad move for telkom. It would anger the masses even more and cause mass migration from their network as soon another competitor arrived

..- dot dot dash ;)

It's ICASA who decide on tarrifs...

But it's going to be interesting how Telkom will fight a demand for tarrif decrease from ICASA when they have made a R4billion profit and feel they are also overstaffed by > 7000 people in providing RSA with excellent service ...

Dikbek.
Telkom decides tariffs, ICASA reviews and determines if the price adjustments are fair.

Proud South african rip offs.
