Soooo
This weekend was UFC 154, GSP coming from a 18month injury managed to beat the Intern Champion Carlos Condit,
Before the fight Dana White announced if GSP manages to beat Condit, a Super Fight (catch weight) between him (welter weight) and Anderson Silva (Middel weight) is on the cards, most probably next year May
Now the people who knows MMA wil know this is HUGE, this wil probably be the biggest fight in UFC history

I hope GSP takes it, i think he has the tools and the mentality to beat Silva, GSP arguably the best wrestler in the UFC, against the great Silva, we all know Silva is not the best wrestler but arguably the best striker....man, i cannot wait
The top 2 pound for pound fighters in the world.....

What’s your take?, who do you guys think will win it?

I often read mybb, but this is my first post. Seeing the topic I just had to reply.

I am a huge GSP fan but Silva is going to destroy him. Silva is just too quick and big.

Silva has shown he has an amazing chin. He can knock anyone out. GSP is elusive, but I think it would be a matter of time before Silva would catch GSP. Were they the same size I would say GSP would win.

GSP's only chance is taking him down and grinding out a decision.

I really don't think this fight will happen though. Would be the most amazing UFC in history (aside from Mir vs Big Nog 2 :))

I'm not a huge fan but even I know those two fighters; what a match-up that would be..
if Dana feels like making a couple extra dollars, he'll do the right thing and give us what we want :D

I think Silva will beat GSP in spectacular fashion.

He's just so sublime... his Muay Thai is 100's of times better than Carlos Condit's and you should see what GSP's face looked like after the fight!!!!
Go to the UFC website and watch the post fight press conference... GSP looked pretty darn rough.

Anderson's Jitz is better...
He's beaten better wrestlers... as in Chael Sonnen.
He's beaten better strikers... Vitor Belfort.
He's beaten stronger guys... Okami and Bonnar

He also has several amazing and unique abilities that no-one else has in the UFC. His ability to guage timing and react faster than anyone else. He also can adapt to anything people throw at him.

I think GSP is scared of Silva... I think EVERYONE is!!!

after GSP... I agree, Silva should fight Jon Jones. Even though Jon Jones is in a completely different physical class, I think that will be the fight that history will demand!

Wow, an MMA thread on a technology forum. :P Didn't expect this! Glad to see some local UFC fans though! Here's my two cents on the matter...

Personally I don't think this fight should happen. I used to think it would be the superfight, but that honour now belongs to the Silva / Jones matchup which for me is a far better prospect. Anderson can have his catch-weight fight if he wants; he's cleaned out his division twice over and even embarrassed a few light-heavyweights. But I think GSP needs to stay at 170 and defend his belt from the talented and deserving contenders in that weight-class. GSP doesn't want this fight because he is too much of a professional to take a half-assed catch-weight fight for "entertainments sake". I have no doubt that he would rather find himself fighting Anderson Silva if he was a legitimate 185er himself, and I don't think he really wants to make that move (yet). But be that as it may, like Dana White keeps saying, money talks, and I'm almost certain the fight will happen, purely because of unrelenting pressure from MMA fans that are becoming more and more like WWE fans, and from Dana White.

Anderson wants this fight because he knows he can beat GSP. He's at a point in his career where he has only a few fights left in him and he's trying to seal his legacy . Who else is left to fight him? Fighting guys like Stephan Bonnar isn't going to achieve anything. It's GSP or Bones. No one else realistically stands a chance. Bones is a FAR tougher fight for Anderson; he's practically a heavyweight, but equally as athletic. I'm not gonna say that Anderson is scared of Jon Jones, but I believe its too risky for him at this point in his career.

Chris Weidman also deserves a legitimate crack at Anderson... Really, I'm not a fan of these "superfights". However, one fight I'd like to see is Anderson Silva vs. Nick Diaz. Both fighters have come out and said that they are open to the idea, but Dana doesn't want it. Pity. Oh man, I would love to see Nick Diaz try that "come at me bro" sh*t with someone like Anderson Silva!

Silva is 37 and only has two fights left on his contract. He wants to fight GSP and it's a big money fight that Dana White will push for before Silva's contract runs out. GSP is too much of a company man to say no.

Okay, Let me respond to my own thread :P

GSP and Jones is a completely different kind of fight for Silva, i honestly think Silva has a beter chance against Bones than GSP, Bones likes standing, Silva likes standing, and in a standing fight my money wil be on Silva...
GSP on the other hand is probably the smartest fighter out there, no doubt he will study every single Silva fight, and he will have a very good game plan, everyone knows GSP can stick to a game plan, i think it will go a lot like the Sonnen fight, but, let’s face it, GSP is 100 times beter than Sonnen, he won’t make the same mistakes Chael made, he has a lot more tools than Sonnen.....

GSP has two losses, both in the first round, both coming very quickly, If Silva does not finish GSP in the first round, then ladies and Gentleman, we have a fight on our hands, if this fight goes to the judges, i don’t see Silva lifting his hand

Silva has never fought someone with the fighting caliber of GSP, but same can be said for GSP, Silva vs GSP is huge, it’s for the king of pound for pound, arguably the 2 best fighters in the world going at it, i get Goosebumps just thinking of it :P

I'm all for this super fight...BUT...only after GSP has fought Hendriks and potentially Diaz. GSP needs a few more fights to get back into the swing of things after being out for almost 2 years.

My dream calendar for GSP.
March = Hendriks
Aug = Diaz
Dec = Super fight with Anderson

Most of my feelings have been posted by other members already.

It will be a great fight but I think GSP will get hammered by Silva. GSP struggled to finish and was quite rusty against Condit which is understandable, but Silva is in a class of his own. His take down defence is not too bad and he will need to get close enough without getting knocked out first.

I also think a Jones vs Silva fight is the route to go. But I doubt Jones will ever take a fight like that.

i would rather say Diaz vs Hendriks, winner to fight GSP

I disagree with people saying Jones will avoid Silva. Jones would destroy Silva on the ground. He is good in standup and was a state champion in wrestling. However the thing that sets him apart is his effective of elbows to the face when on the ground. UFC allow elbows to the face other MMA orgs do not and Bones has exploited that and Silva will definitely does not want to fight him for that reason as he will know not only will he lose but his face will get messed up.

I would like to watch the GSP vs Silva fight as I think it ill be an even fight.

People would be foolish to just write GSP off against Silva, while he will undoubtedly be outweighed on fight night by Silva, the height & reach advantage Silva has wouldn't be a million miles away from what GSP faced against Condit & due to the fact GSP is so explosive with his kicks, punches & takedowns, GSP's speed would be something that could balance things up a little.

Anyway!

Who is going to EFC 17 tomorrow?

After getting tickets for the last 4 events and other issues arising each time, I will be watching my first complete Live EFC event tomorrow night.

I agree
Seems like people think GSP is a push over, Condit beat Diaz, GSP beat Condit, after a 18 month injury, that tells you something about the guy

A Super fight i would love to see is Jones vs Dos Santos....., Junior has excellent take down defense, so Jones won’t get hom on the ground (neither Cain or Frank got him down once), and even the great Cain learnt on the hard way, you don’t stand and trade punches with Junior!

The Cain vs Junior rematch is in about a month’s time, going to be an interesting fight
Junior being my second favorite fighter next to GSP, i really hope he makes it 2-0 against Cain

GSP by decision via dry humping

Could happen...
But I honestly believe Anderson Silva will pull some more matrix moves out of his bottomless bag of tricks and knock GSP out with some weird technique that no-one has seen before.

Chael Sonnen is a better wrestler than GSP... at least in terms of "top control". GSP might have better take downs than Sonnen, but he can't damage from the top too well.

I think GSP is a very smart fighter. VERY smart. He's technically brilliant and very good at avoiding damage.
However, Silva has something special. If you look at the manner in which he's managed to FINISH some of the best fighters in the world ON THEIR OWN TERMS, it's incredible.

I want the fight to happen for exactly this reason... the fight world is divided into either the GSP camp or the Anderson camp... They represent 2 different worlds of martial arts. One is an accurate counter striker who is creative and fluid; the other is an unparallelled workaholic with excellent all round technique and brilliant strategy.
They are both the long time dominant fighters of their divisions.
We need this fight to happen to be able to say once and for all... the best MMA fighter of our generation was XXXX.

As for Bones... The man is a freak. Physically unique and disgustingly talented. Submitted submission specialists... out-wrestles wrestlers... knocks out strikers...
however...
Vitor almost took his arm.
If Vitor was more like Frank Mir or Palharres (they don't wait for you to tap... they WILL break your limb), he was too "sporting".
So maybe that's the secret to beating Jones... No mercy... trap a limb and snap it.

As for GSP's next fight... I would like to see him fight Diaz, although he'll probably do exactly what Condit did and stay WAY on the outside.
I agree on Hendricks vs Diaz... winner gets GSP.

Silva's next fight?
Weidman is good... but he's still a kid. He's got to go through Boetsch, Bisping and Sonnen to get to Silva. Yes... his record is impressive, but he has to earn his stripes. Especially poor Bisping. Although I think he'll stand no chance against Silva, Bisping has been right there on the brink of awesomeness for a long time. He also doesn't have too many more left in him either.

Jones vs Henderson... that's for sure. Hendo also can't hang around too much longer.

BRING MORE ANTHONY PETTIS PLEASE!!!!! That kid is like Cung Le mixed with Jake Shields!
