How are your experience if you use this combination. ]

ps. also maybe compare to iphone if you have used it before.

Smart phone should really be desktop OS independent. I wouldn't imagine Android being any easier to sync with OSX than an iPhone with Windows.

so far I've only used easytether to surf the net on my macbook pro via usb gonna set up gmail on iMail and google calendar on iCal for syncing (I wish that this could be done via usb or bluetooth instead)

Hi MB

I have used only Macs since OS7, circa 95. I will not touch windoze cos it frustrates the shift out of me. Use linux from time to time though. Having said that, I am FAR from a fanboy. Apple can and does do wrong - plenty wrong - if you ask me. And my general dissatisfaction with their ZA representation means that I will only give Core the bare minimum of my money. Otherwise, I import via my brother or just go without. And I really only need the computing hardware. No iPhones for me because (a) Core (b) Overpriced (c) Contracts. For years, I have only ever used Nokia. I have been running my own show for the last year or so and a need for a smartphone has become overwhelming. The only reason I mention all of this is to add some balance - unlike fanboys, my review is void of emotion.

EvoCam watches my office and sends me email when someone or something breaks in and I need that email pronto. I use iDeskCal to show my iCal on my desktop because I am always double-booking and skipping things and such so I need it bad. And whenever I am on the can, I like to keep busy playing Sudoku. My smartphone requirements are therefore email, calendar with sync and sudoku.

Two months ago I bought the HTC Wildfire, figuring it was a cheap "toe in the water" so to speak. Its battery life aside, great phone. And syncing with the mac works just fine with SyncMate which comes in a free and expert version. The free version works just fine and has all the features of Missing Sync. The expert has even more stuff.

All in all, Mac-Android can be a happy relationship and I certainly won't be looking to replace this HTC any time soon. At R2500 to R3000 cash the Wildfire is a fantastic entry-level Android, although I believe that the Vodafone* device that sells for around R1500 is just as good.

* Because it is network proprietary, I dunno how much of their own nonSense is on it or if it can be rooted.
