Saw a couple of Youtube demos of this. What struck me was the top notch internet access in 3rd world countries...Keyboard, HDMI, setup WIFI, and then stream Hi-Def movie with no lag. Computers can be as easy to hook up as a TV!

You can have streaming Youtube, Internet browser, media player, email, Angry birds, App Market as standard with so little effort. Throw in Mame4droid and it is just so sweet for the price. The price is not at cut throat rock bottom as well, copycat manufacturers should drive the price close to half - I can get a media player with remote, VGA & HDMI for $38 from dealextreme.

That is the purchase price. Did you really just multiply the US price with the R/dollar price on the day? Importing items cost at least 30-35% more with shipping, fees and import duties added. Import duties alone will be 12US Dollars on this price(that is more than 16% added on the price unless you falsely declare the incorrect value and risk to pay a R2500 fine.

Just for clarity sake I will give a small summary of how to work out costs for importing an item as it seem there is quite a bit of confusion.

I will demonstrate using the 74USD example importing with DHL. For a payment with western union you will pay around R 9.12 per USD if the exchange rate is R 8.40(this includes their fees and commission).

1- The purchase price 74USD
2- Shipping via DHL for one item of this size 20USD(on an order of 10 you will halve that amount so USD10 each).

74USD+20USD = 94USD @ R9.18 = R 862.92 upfront payment to the supplier

3- Duties/VAT = 74USD *1.1 = 81.4USD * 14VAT = 11.39USD * R 8.40 R/US = R 95.68 + R 100 DHL South Africa management fee.

In total this device, bought today, will cost approx R 862.92 + R 95.68 + R 100 = R 1058.60.

This means that the bid or buy cost of R 1150 is very reasonable seeing that bid or buy takes R 58 commission for themselves.
