What is it with android and endless updates?
Barely a week passes and apps are wanting updating.

The other day I updated Sixty60, today I think I'll order some schite.
Open the recently updated app, see a msg:
"welcome to our new app..."

Before I can even do anything a pop-up appears:
"update required..."

This begs the question: why can apps not be developed that do not require weekly updating?

And then the countless volumes of data being churned thu across the country while thousands are having to endlessly update Uber, Checkers, Woolworths every frikking week.

I cannot help but wonder if the various companies involved had to carry the upgrade data costs of the nation would still be so keen on endless & superfluous updates

Ag, many reasons.

Some require framework updates, fixing bugs, adding new features... But most of the times, some apps are not QA'ed properly, and therefore just updated as soon as the bugs pops up. Also, not all Android phones follow the same UI standard, manufacturer specific implementations, etc, that has to be taken into mind.

App development is quite difficult, and I have been through it for a while now. It's a special kind of hell... The one feature works on one OS version, and not on another...

I have big respect for Android app devs. From using Kotlin to Java, and using a quite complicated app development framework called Android Studio.

Not necessarily an Android problem if its app, since many places build for multiple platforms so if its updating on Android there'sd a very good chance it will do so on iOS as well.

I also notice it, i think its become too easy to just keep changing things and pushing updates for it. There surely must be a way to do some changes through in-app updates especially content, marketing etc. Also probably bugs getting fixed - which if being done so often talks to the QA/UAT process too...

F1tv app on IOS used to be like that, every time I want to open the damn thing it needs an update. A bit better these days.

Its the continuous development cycle. Developers are expected to continuously work on the app and constantly release the work. They really shouldn't be forcing updates unless its a security patch or would break if the update is not done because of a back end need.
