Android and Wifi

Good people, I am literally at my wit's end with this issue.

I have an LG G3, working perfectly fine. Then all of a sudden yesterday it would not connect to my wifi at home. Restarted the router, the phone reconnects for a minute or two, then goes back to mobile data. I have changed authentication, changed the channel/frequency, SSID , password, everything. Nothing works. This was working fine for 2 months. The strange thing is, at work it works perfectly, and at home, the SO's phone (Android), and laptop works perfectly.

No matter how many times I forget the network and reconnect to it. It simply says connecting, then saved (sometimes authentication problem), as indicated below. It's little niggles like this that made me dislike Android from the start, although I was not yet motivated enough to switch to iOS.

Some suggestions on the net suggest trying DNSet.

Android Playstore said:
DNSet sets Google's public DNS servers (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4) on your device. In order to do this it creates a local VPN so you have to authorise the app once. The app quits after the VPN has been initialised, this saves space on your device's precious RAM memory.

Try it and report back :)

Some comments say it could be due to IPv6 that can cause an issue ??

Edit: What happens if you create a separate guest network on your router? Does it do the same? With and without authentication.

Thanks for the response.

I have tried manually setting the DNS (which requires you to use a static IP), didn't work.

I will try this application and report back. :)

First off, fiddling with DNS will not solve your problem. All DNS does is change a website name (google.com) to an IP address (216.58.223.14). You are working within your own network so you do not need to resolve any name to ip's. If you do not specifically assign a dns, the device will use the default gateway (the router or switch that gives it an ip) as its dns server.

Your problem is between the phone and the router. You need to check the following:
Is MAC Filtering activated on your router? If so you need to either disable it or add the phone's MAC address to the white list.
Has your phone been blocked on the router? Some routers allow this. The same goes for QoS, bandwidth allocation and "parental control" (time the device can connect)
Has your phone been assigned a static IP address on the router? If so has any other device that connects to the router been set up with a static IP the same?
It could be your dhcp range is too small and there are not addresses available. Increase the range size or lower the lease time.

Saved means that you have added a password to the network connection (this can be done without actually connecting). the device is not actually connected. Try clicking on the connection and selecting connect.
Authentication problem means that the password is wrong or the wrong encryption is set. It can also mean that the dhcp server (the router has dhcp to assign addresses) has not assigned an address or there is a conflict in the address.

What router is it btw? It would help so that we can check what the setting are.

I did consider this, but I decided against a work-around. I'd rather have a solution to the problem. Anyway, the problem seemed to have resolved itself. Wtf. :crylaugh:

Just a note, this device worked perfectly (as it seemingly does now again ) for three months, and the other devices in the house connecting to it have no issues either.

I've had problems on other wifi routers with WPA2 and AES/TKIP. Some devices have a hard time when the router is set to WPA2 and the encryption protocol set to auto. If it does it again try selecting one protocol or the other.

Not that either. I have literally tried everything.

This morning, a different sort of problem. It does connect to wifi (home and work), but every now and then gives me a message saying Internet Not Available through the connection. It does not switch to cellular data (that option is never enabled), but just sits connected with no throughput, and then every now and then, bits of data comes through.

I have now done a Network Settings Reset, so far so good, but let's see.

Factory reset was my next step, I loaded PC Suite and everything, and then saw an option to Repair Upgrade Errors (or something lik that), and that seems to have worked fine.

Let's see if it lasts :D
