I have been using XBMC* for some time now and normally use the official remote app** on my Android devices to select and control movies and music playlists.

I even installed the app on my tablet in case I want to pause a movie or so on.

Just now I was browsing the normal Mybroadband YouTube thread and was greeted with the normal select your app to play the video prompt as seen below.

but instead of clicking on Youtube option as I normally do, I wondered what would happen if I selected XBMC instead, and low and behold, the Clip immediately started caching and play via the TV screen.

Now this places a whole new meaning to surfing in front of the TV :)

yup. the apple crowd slapped a nice name on it (Airplay), blogged like monkey's about it, and all patted each other on the back for being first with something they are actually not first at.

XBMC remote has been doing this before iOS even had a remote for an AppleTV, never mind AirPlay.

Shocking. Taking things that have been around for ages and acting all smug like Apple invented it? I never would have seen that coming.

Also, it's not actually an XBMC thing either, been around before that. Just good old DLNA.

What setup do you have that it immediately plays on the TV, I use skifta with my PS3, but will XBMC be better or about the same?

I have to browse on the PS3 side, but I would ideally like it to just start once I choose it like it happened in the OP.

I have a old laptop plugged into my TV and always running. Its always on is because it is also my internet gateway. Was my old gaming machine (Qosmio x300) with HDMI.

I am aware of DLNA and the the setup did not use it to play the clip, it streamed via its own internet connection. On Android the XBMC remote app did not even open, it just went back to Tapatalk and I saw a window appear on the TV saying caching and 2 seconds later it started playing it.

A cheap option to have a XBMC device that's always on is to get AppleTV, you can install XBMC on it as per http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=XBMC_for_Mac_on_Apple_TV that's only R1000, and a cheap NAS for the data store should be fine. In my case my Media is stored on a D-LINK DNS-323.

Apple TV can be bought from say http://www.have2have.co.za/product/...t_page&utm_medium=banner&utm_campaign=AppleTV
