No experience in programming...
Err, what kind of industry are you in? Some might find it easier than others but still.. This is harder than for example writing a simple Java application (which a newbie found pretty difficult when I was tutoring in Varsity).

About as difficult as it is for someone who has never driven a car before to take a drive across the country in a Porche?

^^^ this! I find it irritating that people think they can open a book and master a skill that some of us have been cultivating for years.
