Android attack

For those who wish to try out Google Android on their PCs, you can download the SDK which includes an emulated Android 'phone' for testing.

Google Android SDK It's about 90MB

More info on the Android emulator can be found here and here.

That's all good and well, but you are forgetting one small detail. Actually it is a big detail since it has the biggest market share amongst smartphones.

Symbian :p

Anything that changes the status quo from "a laptop comes with Windows pre-installed. Suck it up, b1tches" will be a good start.

Edited my previous posts with more info on the Android emulator. :D

For what I can say Chrome is more stable than IE. I guess overall google's software is quite good compared to M$

I'm sure somewhere in google's mission statement reads, "...and try to take over the world!!". :p
And they very well deserve to take over the world... They understand the economics of the drug trade and they deal accordingly... Give the client a little somethin somethin, free where possible and keep him coming back for more.

So what makes android better ? Sounds like just another linux flavour.

hbee that is just a knob comment, no one said its better, its just an alternative on the horizon, and seeing that its open source does not make it linux you (censored), have you forgot that freeBSD and various other OS's are also open source?

Don't be so hard on hbee for that...I was thinking exactly the same.

Afterall they do say...
Android is based on Linux

Makes it seem like another Linux Distro to me and all linux distro's fail in exactly the same areas IMO which makes all forms of Linux only 1 alternative and not many alternatives. Different eye candy doesn't make it an alternative OS if it is all based on the same thing.

In other words I feel if I have played with Ubuntu then I may as well take for granted that I have played with Kanotix, Slax, Red Hat, Knopix etc.... In the end they are all the same just with added/changed features and different looks.

They all fail in that they can't run Windows binaries...WINE doesn't do a great job either.

They all fail from a user friendliness point of view for the average user.

They all fail for a lot of hardware compatibility and outdated drivers.

They all fail for 5.1 or 7.1 sound setup.

They all fail for gaming.

They all fail to some extent for support (archives are full of l33t linux users ;)).

Look I am not saying Linux is bad...it is freaking brilliant in it's own way. It is just that if this Google OS is based on Linux it may as well be Linux. So what that guy/gal said was maybe not a stupid thing.

I agree that what HBee said is relevant.

but

Linux should not be used to run Windows binaries.

From what I've seen Ubuntu and a few other distributions like Gentoo and Knoppix is just as user-friendly as Windows if not more !

On the driver front things are much better these days and you can work around the few problems that exists.

Agreed ... gaming for Linux is very sparse.

The Internet should be your support resource for Linux... Linux depends heavily on Internet connectivity.

Can't argue with that :) although I have had bad experiences with Linux before :/ I guess it created a sort of stereotype for me and Linux in general.

Yeah I'm gonna have to say that I'm with Jonny Two Shoes on this one. Linux is too unfamiliar for regular computer users (read windows users). So its a mainstream fail.

Yet some geeks like us do like it and I can understand that also.
