Android Auto (Google Assistant) vs Apple Carplay (Siri)

I’m enjoying the Apple Car play in my 2016 Leon FR.

I would not buy a new car that does not have it.

Android Auto gets Siri-inspired makeover

The seamless integration of our smartphones with our cars has become an integral part of modern driving, and Android Auto has been at the forefront of this revolution. Google proves its dedication to enhancing the Android Auto experience by continuously rolling out new features and updates. The latest in the Android Auto world is a fresh design for Google Assistant that resembles to Apple's Siri.

The revamped Google Assistant for Samsung's Galaxy interface is prominently displayed when the system is awaiting a response from the user. It's a visual cue that the assistant is actively listening or processing a request. While some may appreciate the clarity this provides, others argue it's an unnecessary distraction, particularly considering Google Assistant already has a multi-color animation at the bottom of the Android Auto screen that serves a similar purpose. The new design is reportedly visible on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 running Android Auto v12.5 and could be available on other Samsung phones running One UI 6.1 or One UI 6.1.1.

This design change is another instance of the growing synergy between Samsung and Google. In recent years, we've seen Samsung introduce the SmartThings app to Android Auto, allowing for convenient control of smart home devices directly from the car's dashboard. When a Samsung phone connects to an Android Auto-compatible infotainment system, a unique set of squircle-shaped app icons pop up on the screen. It's a subtle touch that adds a layer of visual consistency for Samsung users.

I like Carplay but the Home integration makes me want to pull my hair out - on the home screen it will display one "recommendation" for an automation task which I suppose is normally your garage door and it will pop up when you get close to your house.

The problem is if you have two garage doors, 90% of the time it chooses to show my side gate which I never ever use from the car and there is no way for me to set the preferred one. Hope they improve some of this stuff with iOS 18.
