Hey guys on Android auto is there any way to actually view messages like maybe a preview or actually view them without them just being read out aloud by the system?

It's so frustrating not being able to have a preview window or being able to open a message and view the message.
It seems you can only see who has messaged and then when you click it , Android reads it to you.

Thanks

Good day, Unfortunately, no developer will touch this. I will attempt to explain to you why that is.

The first thing is the developer will have liability. Building an in-car app that takes your eyes from the road onto the screen is a big no-no. Euro-Standards will not allow for this and developer guidelines are clear on this. We are not to develop software that will distract the driver.

For example, let us say you plug your phone into your car radio via its USB while the car is idling. It will not link. The car engine must be off for it to link. This is hard-coded into the Android auto system. This is to conform to Euro-safety standards.

So developers just stay away from it. Yes, you can use it at your own risk. It is not justifiable and you can end up losing your ability to sell apps. Even if you make the app yourself for yourself it can still be seen as tampering with the car's electronics and your insurance may not pay out. This may be more true in first-world countries than in the third world. But they just might look at it who knows.

Can it be done? Yes. Will it be done? No. No one is going to risk liability. You can do it for yourself and it might work perfectly for you but that is not to say that it should be a product. But in future with self-driving cars, it might become a thing who knows?
