Google banning call recording apps from Play Store

Google has announced a new policy for developers banning them from offering call recording in apps published on its Play Store.

The new policy was initially announced on 6 April 2022 and was picked up by Reddit user NLL-APPS two days ago.

They criticised the change, arguing that it would only force users to search for apps that can perform call recording outside the Play Store, potentially exposing them to harmful software.

To be fair, most of those apps are shitty anyway and don't really work well. At least not the ones I've tried.

My Mate 10 Pro has the default Huawei call recorder apk installed which allows me to record calls using the stock dialler. As long as oems can still provide this then it shouldn't really be a problem.

What I do have a problem with is the oems not offering this feature in S.A, when we are in fact allowed to record calls/conversations. I dread the day I have to switch devices and no longer having this option available to me.

Baked in call recording is the reason I will run my 30 month old Xiaomi Mi 9T until it dies.

Then, buy a new Global Rom Xiaomi and flash the EU Rom onto it to restore call recording.

Call recording has saved me thousands in disagreements with customers. I could never give it up now.

My old Xiaomi Redmi 7 phone has call recording in the dialler. You can old start recording during a call though.

Is there any app outside the app store which is capable of recording two-sided conversations without using the speaker or something funny? There is in any event not a single app on the playstore that can do this on new versions of Android. Recording capabilities has been blocked at OS level in any event.

If there is, which could bypass the restrictions, I would not hesitate to jump at installing it even if it means losing warranties or having to root my device.

Best of all is that recording calls, even without a persons' permission, is not illegal in South Africa. Nor is it seen as an invasion of privacy. Yet, Google throws the blanket and f**k everyone over. Time has come for a new OS that does not have these restrictions.

I am way past the "I don't want to root" stance. If I can get a working app, I will root the piece of s**t device with its piece of s**t Android software on it.

I never rooted my last three phones, The one before (some Xperia) rooting caused the camera processing to degrade, and the phones before that, I flashed custom ROMS, then certain things like the camera and GPS would never work as well as stock.

Have we got past that now, or are there still issues?

No app works on my Samsung Galaxy Note 9 since Android Pie was released. Unfortunately. Some do record using the speaker, but quality is so bad, recordings will never be admissible in any criminal or civil or other investigation or proceedings.

So, I am looking to root and have no problem with it, but I need to know that there will be some app that works before I do it, but from what I have read so far, even rooted, recording phone calls are over if you have any Android device.

Some people said some devices like Xiomi still records, but I can confirm they do not. Probably older devices on Android before Pie.

I am hoping a new OS will come out from somewhere else that still allows recording and I will drop Android devices without blinking. Even if the new OS offers much less features.
