Android Car License and Drivers License Scanner

Hi all, hope this is the correct thread for this query.

We have a small road closure and are looking to scan car license and drivers licenses.
I am looking to source a rugged android scanner like a Zebra running Android. It would need Android apps to do this. Can anyone assist with a solution on this or advise on an alternate solution. We are budget restricted and am seeing solutions for like 15K to 20K which is out of our budget.

We just require a basic solution. No access codes or anything along those lines. We are just looking to capture information at this point in case of a problem we can refer to the captured data.

At the end of the day how does it really help with security? Why not just get cameras and record the cars coming in?

Unless it’s private property; drivers can just tell you to **** off (rightfully so) and continue to drive into the public area.

Secondly, if you’re asking for a solution on an Internet forum; I’m not convinced you’re equipped to handle such a requirement nor will you follow applicable laws around data collection.

A road closure does not make the road private property. Private individuals or neighbourhood groups are not legally allowed to collect or scan driver’s licence or vehicle information at a road closure. Only authorised law-enforcement officials may do so.

You may also not prevent access to anyone as this is still deemed public space.
