Hi and thanks for your help.

I currently have a no-name 2Din Android car radio with GPS. But, I cannot get Android Auto going with my Samsung S22. It works perfectly on my wife's car ... meaning the cable is good. Current Radio has Android Car 9.1.

Can you recommend a "brand" radio? I had a look at Joying and EKIY which all have relatively good reviews.
Budget not more than R4 500 - R5 000.

Will appreciate your recommendations.

I think I have a similar radio, it doesn't support Android Auto natively. You need to install an app called Headunit Reloaded from App Store. Try the trial version before buying full version, not too expensive.

That app is old, IIRC

Edit: I tested that app way back in 2017/2018, did not work for me, but seems it works for most people, been updated recently.

Not sure if it will run on a "modern" Android headunit properly, since Android and the USB protocol evolved significantly since it was implemented.
I guess it differs from hardware device to another.

I would not touch OneNav head units, but only something like a Sony, Alpine or Kenwood.

Something a little out of your price range, but this looks promising:

Would agree with going for branded names. The Chinese ones will at best work sometimes, as in they tend to disconnect or freeze up constantly. INeeds a minimum of 4gb ram to function semi properly. Save up and wait till Black Friday!!!

Get a cheap tablet. Install in car. Put original radio in glove box. Connect with an aux cable. Run charger from cigarette lighter socket.
Load OSM street maps.
Load music etc. Etc.
Bingo you have a full Android system for R500.00

This one has a 13-Band EQ and time alignment function so you can set the distance from your head to each speaker and it will delay each audio signal so that the sound from all the speakers hits your ears at the same time. Also, it's on special.

Stop buying android headunits, when will you guys ever learn.
100% - I've had a few, currently have one in my Hilux - it'll be the last. They all are poorly made, and suffer from the same issues, poor software, radio quality, mic qualty, etc.

I'll stick to Android Auto/Car Play units.

or just
?? nvm it just extends it
